Team Biden has been talking tough on China, but so far Beijing is more shameless than ever on all fronts, bullying Hong Kong and Taiwan while pretending to suspect the United States birthed the deadly coronavirus.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast night, I was on the phone for two straight hours with Xi Jinping,\u201d President Biden revealed Thursday, calling his chat with China\u2019s president \u201ca good conversation.\u201d (Still waiting for a first call to US ally Israel.)<\/p>\n

The White House says Biden ran down a litany of complaints with Xi: \u201chis fundamental concerns about Beijing\u2019s coercive and unfair economic practices, the crackdown in Hong Kong, atrocities in Xinjiang and increasingly assertive actions in the region, including toward Taiwan.\u201d They also \u201cexchanged views on countering the COVID-19 pandemic and the shared challenges of global health security, climate change and preventing weapons proliferation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hours before the call, Biden announced a Pentagon task force to recommend answers to the \u201cgrowing challenges\u201d of China\u2019s military.<\/p>\n

Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan reportedly told lawmakers that China poses \u201cthe greatest long-term national security threat to the United States.\u201d Ya think?<\/p>\n

Beijing will do or say anything in its quest for power and influence. Last week, as a World Health Organization team announced what it had learned about COVID-19 in Wuhan (very little, as Beijing long ago destroyed the evidence), Chinese Foreign Ministry flack Wang Wenbin seized the chance to again accuse Washington of unleashing the deadly virus, calling on America\u00a0to be \u201copen and transparent\u201d and \u201cinvite WHO experts to the US to conduct origin-tracing research and inspection.\u201d <\/p>\n

That follows last month\u2019s demand from his colleague Hua Chunying that Uncle Sam \u201copen the biological lab at Fort Detrick, give more transparency to issues like its 200-plus overseas bio-labs\u201d and \u201cinvite WHO experts\u201d into the country.<\/p>\n

The Communist regime showed its own contempt for openness last week, revoking bail for pro-democracy Hong Kong news<\/a>paper publisher Jimmy Lai, who faces bogus charges of \u201cforeign collusion\u201d under the new national-security law, which could bring a life sentence. Meanwhile, Beijing\u2019s puppet Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam confirmed that the mainland now rejects dual sovereignty, so the many residents with British Overseas Passports can\u2019t get British consular assistance.<\/p>\n

Beijing\u2019s still bullying Taiwan, too. Soon after Biden\u2019s inauguration, it spent a weekend sending dozens of fighters and bombers into Taiwanese airspace, and has kept up the breaches near-daily. A Reuters analysis of satellite images also exposed China\u2019s \u201crelentless campaign of sand dredging, frequently encroaching on waters controlled by Taiwan,\u201d in a bid to distract the island nation\u2019s defenses and ruin the livelihoods of residents of a string of Taipei-controlled islands.<\/p>\n

Nor have the Communists stopped torturing civilians. Biden\u2019s State Department said that reported \u201catrocities\u201d such as the systematic rape of Uyghur women<\/a> held in Beijing\u2019s concentration camps \u201cshock the conscience<\/a> and must be met with serious consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s team is talking the right talk. We look forward to seeing it actually deliver \u201cserious consequences\u201d for all of Xi\u2019s horrors.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
