Chris Harrison\u2019s girlfriend has taken a stand against him.<\/p>\n

Lauren Zima, who has been dating the \u201cBachelor\u201d host for two years, posted a statement to her Instagram Story after Harrison took a leave from the show this week for \u201cexcusing\u201d a contestant\u2019s past racist behavior.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat Chris said was wrong and disapp<\/a>ointing,\u201d Zima, a correspondent on \u201cEntertainment Tonight,\u201d wrote on Saturday. \u201cDefending racism can never happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAccountability comes first, what\u2019s next is learning and growth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier on Saturday, Harrison, 49, announced that he\u2019d be stepping away from the show, which he\u2019s hosted since its inception, and would not be part of the \u201cAfter the Rose\u201d special at the end of the current season of \u201cThe Bachelor.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cBy excusing historical racism, I defended it. I invoked the term \u2018woke police,\u2019 which is unacceptable. I am ashamed over how uninformed I was. I was wrong,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Uproar surrounded Harrison this week after he gave an interview asking fans to give current contestant Rachael Kirkconnell \u201ca little grace, a little understanding\u201d after it came out that she once attended a plantation-themed college party in 2018 and allegedly \u201cliked\u201d racially insensitive social media<\/a> posts. <\/p>\n

Harrison made the comments during an interview for \u201cExtra\u201d with Rachel Lindsay, who was the first black \u201cBachelorette,\u201d which developed into a heated back-and-forth about race. <\/p>\n

In the wake of the controversy, Lindsay, who still works for the \u201cBachelor\u201d franchise, said she\u2019d be cutting ties with the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t take it anymore,\u201d Lindsay, who in the past has been outspoken about the show\u2019s lack of diversity,\u00a0said on her podcast, \u201cHigher Learning,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0on Friday. \u201cI\u2019m contractually bound in some ways. But when it\u2019s up, I am too. I can\u2019t do it anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kirkconnell, 24, also issued an apology<\/a> this week, saying: \u201cAt one point, I didn\u2019t recognize how offensive and racist my actions were, but that doesn\u2019t excuse them. My age or when it happened does not excuse anything. They are not acceptable or okay in any sense. I was ignorant, but my ignorance was racist.\u201d<\/p>\n

But her fellow contestants came out with their own statement saying they \u201cdenounce any defense of racism.\u201d<\/p>\n

The current season of ABC\u2019s long-running show features Matt James, the first black \u201cBachelor.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
