“#David Boreanaz speaks amid Joss Whedon abuse claims on ‘Buffy’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

David Boreanaz has pledged support for his co-star on \u201cBuffy the Vampire Slayer\u201d as fans urge<\/a> the cast to step up amid accusations that director Joss Whedon was abusive, particularly toward women, on the set. <\/p>\n

Boreanaz, 51, shared a statement via social media<\/a> on Sunday. \u201cI am here for you to listen and support you,\u201d he wrote<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cProud of your strength,\u201d he added, app<\/a>arently referring to former co-star Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia in the \u201990s sci-fi series<\/a>. Carpenter, 50, penned an open statement earlier this month to say Whedon, 56, had \u201cabused his power on numerous occasions,\u201d as the trio collaborated on both \u201cBuffy\u201d and its spinoff, \u201cAngel,\u201d starring Boreanaz as the eponymous do-gooder vampire. <\/p>\n

Carpenter responded to the \u201cSEAL\u201d actor on Twitter<\/a>: \u201cI know you\u2019re there for me, David. I appreciate all you\u2019ve done to demonstrate that support privately as well. Especially since Wednesday \u2026 thank you so much.\u201d <\/p>\n

Boreanaz\u2019s comment appears to be the first male co-star on \u201cBuffy\u201d to back up Carpenter, as well as Michelle Trachtenberg, a k a Buffy\u2019s sister Dawn, who added to the controversy by claiming that the \u201cThe Avengers\u201d director was \u201cnot allowed in a room alone\u201d with her. Trachtenberg, now 35, was around just 15 years old at the time.<\/p>\n

Eliza Dushku, 40, has said that her \u201cheart aches\u201d for Carpenter. \u201cI\u2019m so sorry you have held this for so long,\u201d she wrote<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Sarah Michelle Gellar also spoke up in an Instagram post shared last week.<\/p>\n

Whedon has fielded accusations of sexual harassment and misogyny on his production sets for years, particularly after ex-wife Kai Cole accused her former husband of having had \u201cmultiple affairs\u201d with his young female ingenues in a scathing letter<\/a> she published in 2017<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg in \u201cJustice League,\u201d also recently accused Whedon \u2014 who stepped in to direct during Zack Snyder\u2019s hiatus \u2014 of \u201cgross, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable\u201d behavior on the set of the 2017 film.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
