Playtime\u2019s over,\u00a0nerds<\/em>. It\u2019s time for\u00a0Stranger Things<\/em><\/strong> to get\u00a0dark<\/em>. How dark, you ask? We\u2019re talking\u00a0really<\/em> dark! Maybe even\u00a0Zack Snyder\u2019s Justice League<\/em> dark. According to series<\/a> star\u00a0Finn Wolfhard<\/strong>, who started the show looking like a small child and now looks like a full-grown adult who is still playing a kid,\u00a0Stranger Things<\/em> season 4 is going to be the \u201cdarkest season ever been [made].\u201d Sounds pretty dark!<\/span><\/p>\n

Stranger Things,<\/em>\u00a0one of Netflix\u2019s biggest hits, will eventually unleash its fourth season upon the world. And what can we expect when it gets here? Something dark, of course. In an interview with\u00a0CBC<\/a>, Finn Wolfhard, who plays\u00a0Mike Wheeler on the show, said: \u201cEvery season it gets darker. I will say [with] season three I was like, \u2018This is the darkest season that there\u2019ll ever be\u2019\u00a0\u2014 like exploding rats and everything. But really, Season\u00a04 so far\u2026 it\u2019s the darkest season that\u2019s ever been [made]. Every year it gets amped-up; every year it gets funnier, darker, and sadder, and everything. So I\u2019m really excited for people to see it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just\u00a0how<\/em> dark can the show get, exactly? Season 3 went to some very dark places, and even app<\/a>eared to kill off fan-favorite character Hopper, played by David Harbour<\/strong>. But Hopper\u2019s death was almost immedia<\/a>tely walked back in a not-so-cryptic post-credit scene. And the character was officially confirmed to be alive via a season 4 teaser. But Hopper isn\u2019t exactly out of the woods yet. He\u2019s stuck in a prison camp in\u00a0Kamchatka, Russia, and a statement from\u00a0Stranger Things<\/em> creators the Duffer Brothers teased that Hopper is set to \u201cface dangers both human\u2026and other. Meanwhile, back in the States, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long-buried, something that connects everything\u2026\u201d
\nSo what could that mean? It\u2019s likely tied-into the secret\u00a0U.S. government laboratory in Hawkins that was introduced in the first season. Beyond that, though? Your guess is as good as mine. Speaking with Total Film<\/a> last year, cast member\u00a0Joe Keery<\/strong>, who plays Steve Harrington, also teased some looming darkness, saying: \u201cI think that this year\u2014and I know I say this every single year\u2014but this is definitely going to be a lot scarier than prior years, because last year was pretty dark.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bottom line: whatever happens in season 4, it\u2019s going to be dark and\/or scary. And as long as there isn\u2019t another side-trip<\/a> to\u00a0Chicago, I\u2019m curious to see how it all plays out. Production on season 4 hasn\u2019t wrapped yet, so it\u2019s unclear when we\u2019re going to see it. If I had to guess it would be no sooner than October 2021, but I also wouldn\u2019t be surprised if we have to wait until 2022.<\/p>\n
