A man renting a room from a Maine couple allegedly killed them in an unprovoked attack early Friday morning, according to a report.<\/p>\n

Patrick Maher, 24, was charged with killing Troy Varney, 52, and his 48-year-old wife Dulsie Varney at their Turner residence, the Sun Journal reported<\/a>, citing police.<\/p>\n

Sources told the news<\/a>paper it app<\/a>ears Maher fatally stabbed the couple in an ambush attack.<\/p>\n

One of the couple\u2019s two daughters discovered her parents inside the home and called police.<\/p>\n

In the days leading up to the bloodshed, Dulsie started to fear Maher, a relative told the Journal. It was unclear why.<\/p>\n

A relative of Maher\u2019s told the newspaper that he was depressed amid the pandemic and was exhibiting strange behavior in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

The Varney\u2019s were well-known in their community. Troy ran the family farm and his wife was a teacher.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are the kind of people that give of themselves, getting involved in the community with events and fundraisers,\u201d neighbor Rob Hutter told the newspaper.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe, as a town, couldn\u2019t ask for better neighbors.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
