Embattled scooter-sharing company Revel plans to expand into e-bike rentals, the company announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The new program, which launches in March, will allow New Yorkers to rent a battery-powered bicycle on a monthly basis \u2014 in addition to Revel\u2019s existing moped-share system.<\/p>\n

For $99 per month, the company will deliver a bike, battery and charger directly to the customer\u2019s door. Any maintenance issues can then be called back in to the company, which promises to send a repair person or replacement e-bike within 24 hours.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt provides you all the benefits of personal e-bike ownership without the hassle or cost of repairs,\u201d said Anne Emig, Revel\u2019s head of mobility. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt also is great for someone who might be contemplating purchasing an e-bike but just isn\u2019t quite ready to spend the upfront costs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Revel\u2019s e-bikes batteries can be activated using either a throttle or the bike\u2019s pedals.<\/p>\n

The addition of e-bikes \u2014 along with forthcoming plans to launch electric car-charging stations \u2014 are part of Revel\u2019s \u201cmission to electrify cities,\u201d CEO Frank Reig told The Post.<\/p>\n

Revel\u2019s forays into e-bikes and e-cars comes after its moped rental program was forced to shut temporarily in the Big App<\/a>le last summer after three riders were killed in traffic crashes.<\/p>\n

The company\u00a0closed service\u00a0in the city for roughly a month in July before returning in late August, adding a required 20-minute safety test and mandatory selfie to prove each rider is wearing a helmet.<\/p>\n

The company now also faces multiple lawsuits from users who claim to have suffered injuries due to moped defects.<\/p>\n

Reig declined to comment on the lawsuits, which are pending. He insisted the company\u2019s vehicles are properly maintained for safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery single moped in our fleet has a preventative maintenance schedule \u2014 a certain time period, a certain amount of mileage where that vehicle is brought back to the shop and given a complete maintenance overhaul,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Reig said the idea to expand into e-bikes came in response to the surge in cycling in the city amid the COVID-19 pandemic.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
