Source: TradingView<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"BTC_price_breaks_historical_record\"><\/span>BTC price breaks historical record<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Data from Cointelegraph Markets and TradingView showed BTC\/USD climb over 5% in hours on Tuesday days after BNY Mellon confirmed\u00a0that it would store crypto for asset management clients and rumors also swirled around Morgan Stanley.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The move put Bitcoin on course to hit the psychologically significant $50,000 mark once again after several days of sideways movement as a tussle between whales emerged.<\/p>\n<p>Bulls had initially taken control of BTC after Tesla&#8217;s $1.5 billion Bitcoin buy-in which it revealed on Feb. 8. At the same time, the European Central Bank was among the naysayers who\u00a0claimed\u00a0that central banks as a whole would not interact with Bitcoin in future.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"More_headaches_for_bears\"><\/span>More headaches for bears<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In an update, analysts at derivatives platform Deribit noted that the BNY Mellon news had already managed to reshape investor perspectives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While BTC pulled back 10% from ATH, Feb Implied Vol pruned, suggesting gamma impacted players flat-long post-Tesla news,&#8221; they <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DeribitInsights\/status\/1359851629181304834\">stated<\/a>. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Options volumes exploded in Asian hours: Calls unwound, buyers near-OTM Puts x3k, bearish bias as BTC46k.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sellers were lined up between $49,500 and $50,000, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MI_Algos\/status\/1360922326641102849\">orderbook data<\/a> from major exchange Binance, with increasing support at $46,500.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-02\/46c43ecd-716c-4e2b-b63c-5c9d18885bd5.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Binance buy and sell positions on BTC\/USD. Source: Material Indicators<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In analysis this week, Cointelegraph Markets&#8217; Micha\u00ebl van de Poppe highlighted other factors contributing to the bull case for Bitcoin in the short term.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"An_inevitable_achievement\"><\/span>An inevitable achievement<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Bitcoin had shown signs that its overall momentum would not be halted throughout this month.<\/p>\n<p>With Tesla and then Mastercard as catalysts, market participants were already convinced of the strength of its current bull run. Last week, Cointelegraph Markets contributor filbfilb gave a short-term target of $63,000 for BTC\/USD, being checked by a possible consolidation at around $52,000.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s buy and Mastercard\u2019s acceptance announcement was made public days after MicroStrategy\u2019s dedicated Bitcoin for Corporations summit attracted an audience of around 8,000 executives. While Tesla made arrangements months previously, the implications of the event were clear \u2014 companies wanted and planned to add Bitcoin to their balance sheets.<\/p>\n<p>Even formerly skeptical mainstream commentators were more and more in favor of Bitcoin outperforming cash as a treasury asset in the long term. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s almost irresponsible not to include it \u2014 every treasurer should be going to boards of directors and saying, \u2018Should we put a small portion of our cash in Bitcoin?\u2019\u201d CNBC host Jim Cramer <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/02\/09\/cramer-says-he-owns-some-bitcoin-sees-it-as-alternative-to-large-cash-positions.html\">said<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"markets_outlook\"><\/template><\/p>\n<p>In private comments, Simon Peters, cryptoasset analyst at multi-asset investment platform eToro, forecast $70,000 hitting in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we may see short-term upside in the price of bitcoin and other cryptoassets as a result of this, Mastercard&#8217;s announcement &#8211; coming so soon after Tesla&#8217;s own comments earlier this week &#8211; has real long-term implications for bitcoin and its peers,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBitcoin and its peers are, quite simply, going to be part of the mainstream financial universe sooner rather than later.
