Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>reciation of the potential scale of novel coronavirus generation in wild and domesticated animals.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Finding_the_sources\"><\/span>Finding the sources<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The researchers used machine learning to\u00a0<span>predict the relations between\u00a0411 coronavirus strains and 876 potential mammal host species.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This helped them identify animals that were most likely to be co-infected with different strains of the virus \u2014 which could cause a new one to emerge.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found at least 11 times more associations between mammal species and\u00a0coronavirus strains than were previously known.<\/p>\n<p>They also estimate that there are over 40 times more species that can be infected with four or more coronaviruses than have been observed to date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven that coronaviruses frequently undergo recombination when they co-infect a host, and that SARS-CoV-2 is highly infectious to humans, the most im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>te threat to public health is recombination of other coronaviruses with SARS-CoV-2,\u201d said study co-lead Dr Marcus Blagrove.<\/p>\n<p>The research suggests there could be 30 times more host species for SARS-CoV-2 recombination than are currently recognized.
