“#Jack’s Leaving ‘NCIS’ \u2014 Why It Probably Won’t Happ<\/a>en as She Plans<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

NCIS<\/em><\/a> is gearing up to say goodbye to one of its series<\/a> regulars in Season 18, and Special Agent Jaqueline \u201cJack\u201d Sloane (Maria Bello<\/a>) has already shared her plan with colleague and friend Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon<\/a>). But chances are it won\u2019t happen exactly as she\u2019d like.<\/p>\n

In the last new episode, February 9\u2019s \u201cThe First Day,\u201d Gibbs notices travel<\/a> brochures for places including Jamaica and Montana. \u201cYou planning a trip?\u201d he asks.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess you could say that. I\u2019ve been weighing some things,\u201d including \u201cleaving \u2026 NCIS,\u201d she admits. \u201cThe last 10 months really have me rethinking what\u2019s important.\u201d The episode is the first to take place in a post-COVID world (the beginning of the season jumped back in time, starting in November 2019), and in the time off-screen, medical examiner Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen<\/a>) lost his wife, Breena (Michelle Pierce).<\/p>\n

As a result of everything that has happened, \u201cI think it\u2019s time I slowed my life down a bit \u2014 got out of the city, maybe go to Costa Rica, open a bar on the beach. Just be,\u201d Jack continues.<\/p>\n

But given the logline for the next episode, March 2\u2019s \u201cTrue Believer,\u201d those plans of hers may not come to fruition (at least not yet): \u201cWhen Sloane\u2019s name is discovered in Afghanistan at the site of an abandoned bus with a dead driver, Gibbs accompanies her on a trip to find a group of girls who were kidnapped from the bus. Also, McGee, Bishop and Torres track down a hacker who emailed compromising information to the Taliban.\u201d<\/p>\n

We\u2019re betting that whatever happens in this episode will have a direct impact on how Jack leaves \u2014 the show and the agency. Maybe it\u2019ll reinforce her plan to \u201cjust be\u201d on a beach. Maybe she\u2019ll decide she\u2019s needed elsewhere and slowing down will have to wait. Perhaps whatever she does next will take her into the field more \u2014 like going to Afghanistan to find the kidnapped girls \u2014 than her job sitting behind a desk as the agency\u2019s forensic psychologist.<\/p>\n

One thing we feel we can safely rule out is NCIS<\/em> killing her off. It\u2019s hard to imagine the CBS drama not wanting the option of bringing her back in the future. Plus, while it may not be the same relationship as others, given the potential romantic connection to Gibbs (will anything happen there before she leaves?), let\u2019s not add to this mostly tragic list of his exes?<\/p>\n
