Nestl\u00e9 is coming out with a new version of its iconic KitKat bar \u2014 and it will be missing a key ingredient.<\/p>\n

Nestl\u00e9 is launching a plant-based version of the 86-year-old milk chocolate bar called KitKat V that won\u2019t contain milk any other dairy products, the company said Monday.<\/p>\n

The new KitKat was created in the United Kingdom, where the candy was first developed in the 1930s. It will be available later this year in several countries and at select retailers to test its popularity, the company said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTaste was a key factor when developing the plant-based chocolate for our new vegan KitKat,\u201d Louise Barrett, head of the Nestl\u00e9 confectionery product technology<\/a> center in York, said in a statement. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe used our expertise in ingredients, together with a test and learn app<\/a>roach, to create a delicious vegan alternative to our original chocolate KitKat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nestl\u00e9 said it has other plant-based products made from rice, oat, soy, coconut, pea and almonds across many product categories, including plant-based burgers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a quiet food revolution underway that is changing how people eat,\u201d Nestl\u00e9\u2019s head of confectionary, Alexander von Maillot said in a statement. \u201cWe want to be at the forefront of that, championing the discovery of plant-based food and beverages.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, other candy makers have beaten Nestl\u00e9 to the punch. Privately-held Mars \u2014 maker of Snickers and M&Ms \u2014 introduced two vegan chocolate bars in January called Topic and Bounty.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
