Here\u2019s how to do it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Require_a_Password_to_Unlock_Your_Mac\"><\/span>Require a Password to Unlock Your Mac<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The command to lock your Mac using Terminal doesn\u2019t <em>actually<\/em> lock it. Rather, it just puts it to sleep. You can then select the amount of time that must pass before a password is required. Press Command+Space to open Spotlight Search. If you selected the option to require a password to wake it, it is now also effectively locked.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Locking your Mac is a good way to prevent unauthorized access to it, while still allowing programs to run in the background.
