Working from home has some New Yorkers Zooming in \u2014 on their wrinkles.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the pandemic, I\u2019ve been in video calls 24\/7, staring at my own face and thinking, \u2018Oh, my God, it\u2019s time,\u2019 \u201d said Liz Aiello, a 29-year-old talent agent who lives and works in Hudson Yards. She got her first Botox injections this past summer at Ject, a boutique doctor\u2019s office-cum-spa.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf my career relies on me being on Zoom, and I\u2019m looking at myself, then I thought I might as well do it,\u201d said Aiello, who had a few forehead lines smoothed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At-home beauty experiments \u2014 from haircuts and dyes to TikTok-inspired acne cures \u2014 have been on the rise since lockdown has left us stuck, and bored, at home. Others have gone to more extreme lengths to alter their app<\/a>earances, taking advantage of extra downtime \u2014 and masks \u2014 to hide the healing process after plastic surgery. <\/p>\n

Then, there are the first-timers to Botox and fillers. They\u2019re slipping into the dermatologist\u2019s office after spotting something they don\u2019t like during daily video conferences. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a \u2018Zoom face\u2019 or \u2018Zoom effect,\u2019 \u201d Gabby Garritano, the founder and CEO of Ject, which has locations in Manhattan and the Hamptons, told the Post. <\/p>\n

For the first time, clients are watching themselves smile, laugh and grimace in meetings, and the new angle isn\u2019t always flattering. <\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are seeing forehead lines come out when they are expressive or muscle movement they didn\u2019t know about,\u201d said Garritano.<\/p>\n

The quickest fix for fine-line fatigue? Botox, which Garritano uses to target dimpling chins, laugh lines, crow\u2019s-feet, forehead wrinkles and the furrow between the eyebrows known to experts as \u201cthe eleven.\u201d <\/p>\n

Docs around the city are amping up their focuses on the face. <\/p>\n

Kevin Tehrani, head plastic surgeon at Aristocrat Plastic Surgery on the Upper East Side, said that pre-pandemic, 20 to 30 percent of his practice was dedicated to face-lifts and Botox, with the majority of his patients requesting full-body mommy makeovers, which combine breast augmentations with tummy tucks and liposuction. But now, \u201c50 percent of patients are looking for face treatments,\u201d Tehrani said, calling Botox \u201cthe gateway drug\u201d to more in-depth procedures.<\/p>\n

And the patients are getting younger. \u201cWe\u2019ve seen a huge boom across the industry in millennial clients,\u201d Garritano said, of the generation whose eldest members are turning 40 this year.<\/p>\n

Tehrani has also witnessed a demographic shift. \u201cI\u2019m seeing a lot of younger patients coming in,\u201d he told The Post, adding that a 19-year-old recently came in for his first syringe. <\/p>\n

The first-timers aren\u2019t all teens, though.<\/p>\n

Catherine Ciciola, a 49-year-old real estate agent who lives in Chatham, NJ, saw Tehrani last week for Botox, citing \u201cdoing a ton of house tours on Zoom and FaceTime\u201d among her reasons. <\/p>\n

\u201cI always said, \u2018I\u2019ll never do that,\u2019 but as I aged, I wanted my outside to match how I feel,\u201d said the fit and fiery martial arts black belt.<\/p>\n

Some even count getting injected as self-care.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t gone on vacations or gotten a massage since this [pandemic] started \u2014 I counted this as a little bit of luxury,\u201d said Megan Frost, a 33-year-old startup business developer of her first foray into Botox last month at Center Aesthetic in Union Square. <\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to make sure I was choosing the right place,\u201d the Greenpoint resident said of touching up her forehead. \u201cI found a list of certified Botox centers in the city, and I saw on social media<\/a> that my hair dresser followed [Center Aesthetic], so I reached out and she gave a great review.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tehrani said the web is helping his practice in more ways than one. \u201cWe do a ton of virtual consults,\u201d which \u201cremove the first barrier to entry\u201d for nervous first-timers who can now discuss options from the comfort of the couch, he said.<\/p>\n

A few eager patients are so desperate to get rid of their Zoom foreheads, they\u2019re sliding into doctors\u2019 DMs to get an appointment, never mind concerns such as patient-doctor confidentiality.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people try to use Instagram\u2019s video feature to do consults immediately,\u201d said Tehrani. \u201cI have to tell them that it\u2019s not HIPAA-compliant.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
