\u201cI had three strokes. I had a heart attack. My doctors said that I had five to 10 more minutes [to live].\u201d <\/p>\n

Demi Lovato revealed that her near-fatal drug overdose<\/a> was much more serious than fans ever knew in a trailer for her upcoming four-part YouTube Originals<\/a> documentary, \u201cDemi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old pop star said she hopes to \u201cset the record straight\u201d about what really happ<\/a>ened when she was hospitalized for a heroin overdose in 2018.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the past couple years, I\u2019ve heard a lot of stories about my life and what people think has happened, and I wanted to set the record straight,\u201d Lovato said. \u201cIf it can help you, I hope that it can. That was ultimately my purpose to putting this out, to help people on this path.\u201d<\/p>\n

When recalling her overdose on July 28, 2018, Lovato said she \u201csnapped\u201d despite her skyrocketing success at the time \u2014 having just been nominated for a Grammy and two hit songs topping the charts.<\/p>\n

\u201cDemi\u2019s good at making you believe that she\u2019s OK,\u201d said her stepdad, Eddie De La Garza. \u201cDemi is very good at hiding what she needs to hide,\u201d her sister Madison De La Garza joined in.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe should be dead,\u201d adds a friend.<\/p>\n

The trailer, which previews a snippet of her forthcoming song, \u201cDancing with the Devil,\u201d debuted Wednesday at the Television Critics Association\u2019s Winter 2021 press tour and leaves no stone unturned as Lovato even discusses her now-failed engagement to Max Ehrich<\/a> \u2014 flashing her diamond before the next scene cuts to her scowling and no longer wearing a ring<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t even know why I\u2019m sober anymore,\u201d she declares at one point, later in the trailer adding that she\u2019s \u201creally struggling\u201d while in recovery.<\/p>\n

Lovato also revealed that the OD left her with brain damage, according to Billboard<\/a>, and she\u2019s unable to drive because of blind spots in her vision. She also had to re-learn to read after suffering intense eye damage.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was left with brain damage and I still deal with the effects of that today,\u201d she said at the TCA event. \u201cI don\u2019t drive a car because of blind spots in my vision. \u2026 I had a lot of trouble reading.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had a lot of lives, like my cat, you know?\u201d Lovato said. \u201cI\u2019m on my ninth life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDancing With the Devil,\u201d which will open the 2021 SXSW film festival in March, will premiere on YouTube March 23.<\/p>\n
