Most of the blame lies with teachers \u00adunions that refuse to return to the classroom, despite all evidence that schools aren\u2019t COVID\u00a0spreaders, and politicians beholden to Big \u00adLabor, not least President Biden. Yet a rising chorus of voices\u00a0\u2014 left, right and center \u2014 is demanding full-time, in-person instruction:<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conservative_No_Excuse\"><\/span>Conservative: No Excuse<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cEvery major excuse for keeping schools closed .\u2009.\u2009. is crumbling before our eyes,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2021\/02\/the-excuses-for-keeping-schools-closed-are-imploding-one-by-one\/\">cheers National Review\u2019s Robert Verbruggen<\/a>. For one thing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has come out for reopening schools \u2014 including under the Biden regime. A paper by CDC scientists published after Biden\u2019s inauguration concluded that \u201cthere has been little evidence that schools have contributed meaningfully to increased community transmission.\u201d Plus, research continues to reaffirm scientists\u2019 early finding that kids transmit the virus at a much lower rate than do adults. \u201cEvery halfway plausible reason to close schools is either dead or dying. The prolonged isolation, depression and anxiety that stem from learning by yourself on a computer all day are taking a massive toll on kids who haven\u2019t seen the inside of a school for \u00adalmost a year.\u201d Compare our situation to that in Europe, where governments prioritized reopening schools, and it is unthinkable how ours \u201cis an acceptable state of \u00adaffairs for a developed country.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Doctors_Do_No_Harm\"><\/span>Doctors: Do No Harm<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At The Daily Beast, physicians <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/the-way-to-save-our-kids-is-to-reopen-our-schools-and-camps\">Jeffrey Klausner and Rajiv Bhatia write<\/a>: \u201cWith an increased understanding that children are much less likely to be infected, less likely to become severely ill, less likely to spread infection, we should feel less afraid of opening schools and summer programs and more ready to let our children return to their normal lives.\u201d Early on, when our understanding of the disease was limited, shuttering schools made sense. Yet now we know much more, and \u201ca first principle of public health is to take the least restrictive means necessary to protect as many people as possible. Another is to do no harm. The closure of schools and summer programs are harmful. .\u2009.\u2009. Ignoring new evidence and reinforcing fears is a disservice to our society.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Libertarian_Hear_Parents\"><\/span>Libertarian: Hear Parents<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The New York Times recently claimed that a majority of parents in large cities have declined \u00adin-person instruction \u2014 an assertion that is both technically true and thoroughly \u201cmisleading,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2021\/02\/11\/did-you-know-that-two-thirds-of-families-prefer-full-time-in-person-schooling\/\">counters Reason\u2019s Matt Welch<\/a>. Why? Newark, NJ, is a case in point. \u201cWhile the Newark school district originally planned to reopen multiple times .\u2009.\u2009. pressure from the district\u2019s teachers union has kept students at home for virtual learning.\u201d Pathetic: \u201cInstead of prioritizing the needs of students,\u201d these districts \u201ccontinue to negotiate and renegotiate with staff over a virus that does not have a higher rate of spread within schools than it does within other community settings deemed \u2018essential.\u2019\u200a\u201d Or are teachers suggesting schools are nonessential?<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Epidemiologist_Enough\"><\/span>Epidemiologist: Enough!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At Vox, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2021\/2\/15\/22280763\/kids-covid-vaccine-teachers-unions-schools-reopening-cdc\">epidemiologist Benjamin Linas declares<\/a>: \u201cSchools, it turns out, with a few basic safety measures, including masks and reasonable distancing, are not a high-risk venue for COVID-19 transmission.\u201d Yes, teacher anxieties are \u201creal. .\u2009.\u2009.
