“#Google Maps will help you pay parking and transit fees ahead of time<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Google Maps today introduced<\/a> a few updates to help you get around town without having to slow down to pay at a parking meter or wait in line for a train ticket.<\/p>\n

The company announced integration with ParkMobile and Passport, allowing you to pay for your parking meter in some cities right within Maps. Once you arrive at your location, you\u2019ll see a \u2018Pay for Parking\u2019 button in maps. Enter your meter number and payment info, and you\u2019re good to go. Likewise, you can extend\u00a0 the time on your meter via Maps as well.<\/p>\n

Given we\u2019re all trying to avoid unecessary touching these days, I app<\/a>reciate that this means you don\u2019t even need to touch a parking meter or switch to another app.<\/p>\n

Maps also now allows you to pay fares \u201cfor over 80 transit agencies around the world.\u201d For some of these, that means you\u2019ll be able to pay for your fares before you even get on a train, using the cards linked to your Google Pay account. In the case of New York City\u2019s subway system, you\u2019ll see a reminder that you can now use contactless payments on the subway \u2014 something I\u2019ve come to appreciate in this age of coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The ability to pay for parking arrived today for 400 cities in the US \u2014\u00a0Google specifically mentions\u00a0Boston, Cincinnati, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C \u2014 while for iOS the feature is \u201ccoming soon.\u201d Transit payments are set to launch \u201cin the coming weeks\u201d on Android \u2014 no word on iOS yet.<\/span><\/p>\n
