Saturday Night Live bungled a golden chance for sharp satire in the Trump years,\u00a0notes Chapo Trap House\u2019s Matt Christman<\/a>\u00a0at The Drift, offering only drab finger-wagging and \u201capocalyptic\u00a0moralism.\u201d Right after Election Day 2016, it gave us a lame open of \u201cKate McKinnon sitting at a piano, in Hillary\u2019s white pantsuit and hair helmet, singing \u2018Hallelujah,\u2019 \u201d a bleak harbinger for four years of sketches about supposed savior Robert Mueller and Alec Baldwin \u201cdraining anything funny out of the world-historically hilarious figure he was attempting to lampoon\u201d in his Trump impression. It was four years of a \u201ccomedy-adjacent gloss on every MSNBC fantasy of Russian collusion and eventual comeuppance.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Libertarian: Times\u2019 Tech Writers Push Censorship<\/strong><\/p>\n

At Reason,\u00a0Robbie Soave slams<\/a>\u00a0blatant New York Times\u2019 misreporting on a Silicon Valley blogger. Times\u2019 Tech reporter Cade Metz had already harassed the then-psuedonymous clinical psychiatrist by saying he\u2019d be revealing his real name, which prompted \u201cScott Alexander\u201d to change jobs and self-reveal as Scott Siskind. And the story Metz published Saturday was \u201ca lazy hit piece that actively misleads readers, giving them the false impression that Siskind is at the center of a stealth plot to infiltrate Silicon Valley and pollute it with noxious far-right ideas.\u201d Yet \u201cMetz does not even begin to prove\u201d his false accusation that Siskind offered a \u201cfreewheeling haven for white supremacists,\u201d and wrongly paints the shrink as holding extremist views on race and IQ and on gender and work aptitudes. It seems \u201cthe\u00a0Times\u00a0<\/em>simply wants to tarnish every view that exists outside its own narrow purview, perhaps because the\u00a0Times\u00a0<\/em>has app<\/a>ointed itself the gatekeeper of the unsayable.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the right: Unconstitutional Election \u2018Reform\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Democrats\u2019 House Resolution 1 would \u201cfederalize the rules of . . . presidential elections,\u201d which is clearly unconstitutional,\u00a0David B. Rivkin Jr. and Jason Snead explain at The Wall Street Journal<\/a>. It plainly defies the Electors Clause, which pointedly lets Congress choose only the day states choose electors and when the Electoral College meets, but \u201cgives state legislatures plenary power over the\u00a0manner\u00a0<\/em>of selecting presidential electors.\u201d The Founders in 1787 purposely chose to \u201cavoid the president\u2019s selection by Congress\u201d to ensure the chief executive\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n

Conservative: Bill Gates\u2019 Climate Hysteria<\/strong><\/p>\n

Microsoft gazillionaire Bill Gates recently called climate change \u201cthe toughest challenge humanity has ever faced,\u201d warning that wealthy nations \u201cmust get to zero carbon emissions by 2050 or the world is basically kaput,\u201d\u00a0reports National Review\u2019s David Harsanyi<\/a>. But while Gates admits that decarbonization won\u2019t be cheap, \u201che still relies heavily on fearmongering and dire predictions to make those costs appear palatable.\u201d Fossil fuels have improved our lives \u201cin incalculable ways,\u201d even as the state of the earth has been \u201cimproving in almost every quantifiable way,\u201d so \u201cunless some completely new technology<\/a> emerges, it will take a fascistic technocracy to win this conflict.\u201d Gates must explain why \u201cintentionally creating great economic hardship for America and upturning modernity every year\u201d for three decades is truly necessary, as that\u2019s \u201cthe only way we get to zero carbon emissions in 30 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Energy beat: Learn From Texas<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Lone Star State\u2019s experience with wind turbines \u2014 half of which were \u201cunable to generate electricity because of ice on their blades\u201d amid a recent brutal winter storm\u2014 is a \u201ccautionary tale for the northeast,\u201d\u00a0warns Jonathan Lesser at City Journal.<\/a>\u00a0Resulting electric shortages forced rolling blackouts, leaving millions without power amid the cold. Yet \u201cthe northeast intends to become heavily reliant on offshore wind.\u201d Its leaders think batteries can provide backup, yet building enough storage to supply just New York with four hours of power during a nor\u2019easter \u201cwould cost hundreds of billions of dollars.\u201d No matter: Expect wind advocates to ignore the warnings and \u201cmarch confidently into a future of sky-high electricity rates \u2014 and rolling blackouts.\u201d<\/p>\n
