Bill Gates thinks Facebook and other social media firms should let Donald Trump back on their platforms in spite of the ex-president\u2019s \u201ccorrosive\u201d election fraud claims.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think at some point he probably will be allowed back on and probably should be allowed back on,\u201d the billionaire Microsoft mogul told CNBC<\/a> in an interview broadcast Thursday.<\/p>\n

Gates was asked whether he would let Trump return to social media if he were on Facebook\u2019s internal oversight board, which is reviewing the company\u2019s decision to indefinitely suspend Trump from the site in the wake of the Capitol riots.<\/p>\n

Trump was also permanently banned from Twitter, which said his account posed a \u201crisk of further incitement of violence\u201d after his supporters\u2019 siege of the Capitol left five people dead.<\/p>\n

Gates, 65, suggested that Facebook could slap labels on Trump\u2019s false posts after he returns to the platform. The tech titan began labeling Trump\u2019s dubious claims about the election last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s weird when you\u2019re saying that the election was stolen without any facts there and how corrosive that is,\u201d Gates told CNBC. <\/p>\n

\u201cHis stuff may be labeled as false in a lot of cases,\u201d he added. \u201cIn a way, people\u2019s interest in what he says may go down quite a bit. That\u2019ll be interesting to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump has not abandoned the election fraud conspiracy theories that led Facebook and Twitter to take unprecedented actions against a sitting president.<\/p>\n

Trump told Fox News<\/a> on Wednesday that he thought he \u201cwon substantially\u201d even though he received 7 million fewer votes than President Biden and lost the electoral college by a 74-vote margin.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
