I don\u2019t have a way of predicting how that will progress.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;I don&#8217;t own <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Bitcoin?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Bitcoin<\/a>. I&#8217;m not short Bitcoin,&#8221; says <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BillGates?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BillGates<\/a>. &#8220;I do think moving money into a more digital form and getting transaction costs down, that&#8217;s something the Gates Foundation does in developing countries.&#8221; <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DDe5X196ax\">pic.twitter.com\/DDe5X196ax<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Squawk Box (@SquawkCNBC) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SquawkCNBC\/status\/1362395962229067778?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 18, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>However, the Microsoft co-founder seemed to imply that many were using digital currency outside developing countries for &#8220;tax avoidance or illegal activity.&#8221; He said his philanthropy work through the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation moves &#8220;money into a more digital form,&#8221; with &#8220;total visibility of who\u2019s doing what.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The comments mirror previous statements\u00a0made in a 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reddit<\/a> AMA, in which Gates criticized the anonymity of crypto transactions and connected them with people purchasing drugs. The Microsoft co-founder referred to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> at the time as one &#8220;that has caused deaths in a fairly direct way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Though no longer on Microsoft\u2019s board as of March last year, Gates&#8217; position on cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin is similar to that of the tech company.
