The ex-Texas mayor who slammed his constituents as lazy following the epic winter storm earlier this week \u2014 which knocked out power and heat to many residents \u2014 claims his wife was fired over his blistering comments.<\/p>\n

Tim Boyd, the former mayor of Colorado City, doubled down on his remarks from Tuesday \u2014 but said his wife shouldn\u2019t have been punished for \u201cdefending me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe anger and harassment you have caused my wife and family is so undeserved\u2026.my wife was laid off of her job based off the association people gave to her and the business she worked for,\u201d Boyd wrote in the since-deleted Facebook<\/a> post obtained by the Abilene Reporter-News.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s a very good person and was only defending me! But her to have to get fired from her job over things I said out of context is so horrible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boyd ripped residents of his tiny city, about 250 miles west of Dallas as they grapp<\/a>led with power outages and water shortages amid freezing temperatures after the deadly winter storm swept through.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have no water you\u2026 think outside of the box to survive and supply water to your family,\u201d the former mayor wrote in the initial post. \u201cIf you were sitting at home in the cold because you have no power and are sitting there waiting for someone to come rescue you because your lazy is direct result of your raising!\u201d<\/p>\n

He later claimed that he had resigned prior to the comments, which he said were made as a private citizen.<\/p>\n

Boyd\u2019s wife Casey worked as an administrative assistant secretary within the local school system, the Daily Mail reported<\/a>, citing her Linkedin page.<\/p>\n

Boyd apologized for \u201cthe wording and some of the phrases that were used\u201d in his first post, saying he\u2019s received threats.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would never want to hurt the elderly or anyone that is in true need of help to be left to fend for themselves,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI was only making the statement that those folks that are too lazy to get up and fend for themselves but are capable should not be dealt a handout.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
