{"id":182161,"date":"2021-02-18T23:43:18","date_gmt":"2021-02-18T20:43:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/psaki-dismisses-slow-school-start-impact-on-dems-with-voters\/"},"modified":"2021-02-18T23:43:18","modified_gmt":"2021-02-18T20:43:18","slug":"psaki-dismisses-slow-school-start-impact-on-dems-with-voters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/psaki-dismisses-slow-school-start-impact-on-dems-with-voters\/","title":{"rendered":"#Psaki dismisses slow school start impact on Dems with voters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Psaki dismisses slow school start impact on Dems with voters<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday dismissed the possibility that tepid Democratic support for reopening schools will hurt the party with voters.<\/p>\n<p>A reporter asked Psaki at a by-phone press conference about a concerted Republican attack on Democrats, including President Biden, who have been shy about advocating for reopening amid nationwide resistance from Democrat-aligned teachers unions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me first say on the political front that no polling I have seen has shown that is effective, and there was actually a poll out yesterday that showed that President Biden and teachers were the most trusted entities in terms of determining when school should reopen,\u201d Psaki said, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arently referring to a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jemimamcevoy\/2021\/02\/17\/most-americans-think-schools-should-wait-until-teachers-are-vaccinated-to-reopen-poll-shows\/?sh=564e32142fad\">Morning Consult\/Politico poll<\/a> that found a partisan divide on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>In response to a follow-up question, Psaki said that \u201cthe president, the vice president and this White House don\u2019t see reopening schools through a political prism. We see it as what\u2019s in the interest of teachers, of students, of families, of parents. And we want to do it safely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cKids are not Democrats or Republicans. And their parents \u2014 I think this is an issue that all Americans care deeply about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House stance on restarting in-person school a year into the COVID-19 pandemic recently evolved as fed-up parents fume over delays due to teachers union resistance, despite a green light from federal health officials.<\/p>\n<p>Biden on Tuesday said Psaki was wrong when she said his school reopening goal was to have half of schools open by late April for\u00a0as little as one day per week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not true. Psaki initially said\u00a0Walensky\u00a0was speaking only in her \u201cpersonal capacity.\u201d On Sunday, Biden\u2019s chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci said it would be\u00a0\u201coptimal\u201d but not essential\u00a0for all teachers to be vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC on Friday\u00a0released guidelines\u00a0saying even hard-hit areas can restart classes safely if they routinely screen for the virus.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary research found\u00a0low rates of virus transmission\u00a0within schools.<\/p>\n<p>Psaki on Thursday called for passage of Biden\u2019s proposed $1.9 trillion pandemic stimulus plan \u2014 being rammed through Congress without Republican support \u2014 and said it contains needed funds for schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is within [Biden\u2019s] power is that we are working with Congress to get additional funding which is essential to many school districts across the country so that they can follow and take these mitigation steps recommended by the CDC, including masking, smaller class sizes, that there are more bus drivers hired, that there are more teachers hired if needed. That\u2019s within the president\u2019s power, something he\u2019s focused on every day and night, so that we can open schools, open them five days a week within 100 days, and that\u2019s where his focus is,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans are pointing out that billions in funds for schools already are approved and must be distributed. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said this month that December legislation brought to $68 billion the amount already appropriated for K-12 schools, but that just $4 billion had been spent \u2014 with 94 percent left to dispense.\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
