Instead of throwing away old plane parts,\u00a0Etihad Airways\u00a0is turning them into something beautiful.<\/p>\n

The Abu Dhabi-based\u00a0airline\u00a0partnered with local artists to transform a variety of old interior plane parts into\u00a0artwork\u00a0that is being displayed at the airline\u2019s headquarters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The artists used outdated rolls of carpet and fabric, emergency equipment, sidewalls, windows and seats from economy and business classes for their installations, according to Etihad Airways.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The project is \u201can environmentally friendly alternative of dealing with waste\u201d as opposed to sending the old plane parts to the landfill, Etihad Airways said in a\u00a0press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cEnd-of-life parts that were destined for landfill have been repurposed into beautiful art installations by skilled artists who used rare and unwanted aircraft scraps,\u201d Terry Daly, Etihad Airways\u2019 executive director of Guest Experience and Brand & Marketing, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy collaborating with artists from the local community, our goal is to not only showcase talent within the region, but to further encourage sustainable innovation that\u2019s good for the environment,\u201d Daly added.<\/p>\n

Azza Al Qubaisi is an Abu Dhabi-born sculptor who created a geometric piece made of the seat floor mounting rails.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Christine Wilson, an Ireland-born artist currently based in Dubai, created a multidimensional piece using aircraft curtains, wall panels, life jackets and cabin interiors.<\/p>\n

In a statement, she said the piece is \u201ca visual reflection of the Abu Dhabi skyline.\u201d She also said it \u201cdepicts the incredible landmark achievements of the UAE\u2019s space program.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt represents national pride and reminds us of new beginnings and a new journey,\u201d Wilson said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
