A friendly jab thrown by Noah Syndergaard at Trevor Bauer for how he picked the Dodgers over the Mets in free agency turned into a full on social media spat between the two pitchers.<\/p>\n

Syndergaard, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, retweeted a post from the Mets\u2019 official Twitter account Friday to take a shot at Bauer, who signed a three-year, $102 million contract with the Dodgers earlier this month. In retweeting the original post, photos of himself and Rob Gsellman laughing at spring training, Syndergaard wrote: \u201cAnd then he said\u2026\u2026 \u201cI\u2019m sorry I chose another team but I\u2019ll donate to your charities!\u201d \u201d<\/p>\n

It was a reference to Bauer apologizing to Mets fans for unintentionally trolling them thanks to a glitch that led to the advertisement of autographed Mets merchandise on his personal website hours before he spurned the franchise. He also agreed to donate $10,000 to four New York-based charities.<\/p>\n

Syndergaard\u2019s dig did not sit well with Bauer and his camp. The Cy Young winner\u2019s agent, Rachel Luba replied to Syndergaard\u2019s post by tweeting: \u201cLol was this an attempt at \u201cthrowing shade\u201d \u2026 (puzzled face emoji).\u201d<\/p>\n

Bauer\u2019s response wasn\u2019t as jovial.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen mistakes are made, you try to make them right,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI know you wouldn\u2019t know anything about making mistakes though. Hope rehab is treating you well. Was good to see you back throwing.\u201d<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t stop there.<\/p>\n

Bauer, who isn\u2019t free of controversy interacting with fans on social media, posted screenshots of aggressive replies Syndergaard wrote on an Instagram video of him pitching shirtless last week.<\/p>\n

In them, the 28-year-old righty responded to a fan questioning him posting shirtless images a year after doing so last spring before he needed surgery and missing all of 2020. Syndergaard concluded his response by writing, \u201cit\u2019s humid in Florida and I\u2019m chillin you dumbass.\u201d In another, after a fan wrote he should put a shirt on \u201cu toolbag,\u201d Syndergaard brought the person\u2019s wife in the conversation.<\/p>\n

\u201cshow it to your wife,\u201d he wrote. \u201cGuaranteed she wouldn\u2019t want to me to put a shirt on\u2026 you might actually get laid bc of that but she\u2019ll be thinking of me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bauer, 30, wrote Syndergaard should \u201ctreat the fans better\u201d and that there \u201cis no place for personal insults, especially about someone\u2019s wife.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Reds and Indians pitcher has been far from a social media saint. In 2019, he harassed a female college student on Twitter after she called him her \u201cleast favorite person in sports.\u201d Bauer responded by writing \u201cWelcome to the fan club\u201d and tweeted at least 17 times, either directly at the women or others regarding the argument over three days. Those posts included a photo he found from her timeline of her drinking before she turned the legal age of 21. Bauer later apologized and vowed to \u201cwield the responsibility of my public platform more responsibly in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Syndergaard responded to Bauer\u2019s posting of his Instagram exchanges on Friday by writing \u201ckeep digging\u201d along with a GIF of someone digging a hole<\/a>. Bauer\u2019s response was: \u201cSee you at the bottom.\u201d Thor then told him to \u201cbring a drone and your mixtape and it\u2019s a deal. #takeajokebro\u201d \u2014 in reference to past Bauer controversies. Bauer wrote: \u201cYou\u2019ve got yourself a date (handshake emoji).\u201d<\/p>\n

At least one of Syndergaard\u2019s teammates found the whole exchange amusing.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwitter is all jokes honestly. Lol (shrugging emoji),\u201d responded pitcher Marcus Stroman on Twitter along with a GIF of a man flying a drone.<\/p>\n

The Mets and Syndergaard won\u2019t get their first look at Bauer and the Dodgers until and August, starting with a three-game<\/a> series<\/a> at Citi Field.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
