The Knicks feel fortunate to have made it 30 game<\/a>s into the NBA season before having one postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s scheduled home game against San Antonio became the Knicks\u2019 first contest to be pushed back when four Spurs players tested positive earlier this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cFortunately, we\u2019ve just been lucky,\u201d Knicks guard RJ Barrett said on a Zoom call Friday after practice. \u201cWe\u2019ve been doing the right things. We have a great staff, great medical team. Obviously, just praying and hoping that we continue to stay like this.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn terms of the game [Saturday], it gives us an extra day of prep for Minnesota.\u201d<\/p>\n

Indeed, the Knicks (14-16) will have had three days off \u2014 since Wednesday\u2019s clunker in Orlando halted their three-game winning streak \u2014 before facing the NBA-worst Timberwolves on Sunday night at the Garden.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s game will be the first of four straight at home for the Knicks. Barrett added it\u2019s \u201cvery exciting\u201d that a limited amount of fans will be returning to the Garden \u2014 for the first time since the pandemic shutdown more than 11 months ago \u2014 beginning Tuesday night against the Warriors.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think this is definitely a part of the schedule we\u2019ve been looking forward to,\u201d Julius Randle said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been lucky to not have any postponements. \u2026 At least it\u2019s a home game, so it\u2019s not like we have to go out and travel<\/a>. We\u2019ve been one of the lucky teams, for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tom Thibodeau credited the Knicks\u2019 medical staff and the players adhering to the protocols for mostly avoiding any slipups in relation to the league\u2019s health and safety standards. Only guard Frank Ntilikina has missed any time due to contact-tracing issues, and he has not tested positive for the virus.<\/p>\n
