Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has raised more than $2 million to help Texans in crisis as they continue to experience power outages and freezing temperatures in the wake of a deadly winter storm. <\/p>\n<p>The Bronx Democrat <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1362532972885405706\">announced on Twitter<\/a> Thursday she was raising money for the Lone Star State, and by Friday morning the fundraiser reached $2 million in donations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCharity isn\u2019t a replacement for good governance, but we won\u2019t turn away from helping people in need when things hit the fan,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1362812010589790209\">tweeted <\/a>Friday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople understand that now is the time for collective action and doing what we can w\/ whatever we\u2019ve got.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The donations will be split between the Houston Food Bank, Feeding Texas, The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center, Family Eldercare and Ending Community Homeless Coalition, Ocasio-Cortez said.<\/p>\n<p>She added that she was<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1362809024480243714\"> flying to Houston<\/a> Friday to meet with Rep. Sylvia Garcia to help distribute supplies and \u201chelp amplify needs and solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The same day Ocasio-Cortez launched the fundraiser, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz flew to Cancun, Mexico with his family while Texans struggled to survive in the cold.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican senator cut his <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> short by two days and im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely flew back to Houston Thursday night after facing backlash for leaving the state in the middle of a crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz later acknowledged the getaway was \u201cobviously a mistake.\u201d Meanwhile, his family was soaking up the sun at a beach in Cancun on Friday. <\/p>\n<p>More than 30 Texans have died as a result of the historic winter storm that slammed the state with blackouts and record freezing temperatures.\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
