It was a bare-bottomed blitz.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alaskan native Shannon Stevens was attacked by a black bear when she went to relieve herself in the outhouse near her brother\u2019s yurt on Saturday night, Feb. 13. <\/p>\n

Following a rustic dinner of sausages cooked on an open fire and a day of snowmobiling to the remote hideaway near Chilkat Lake, Stevens became one with nature \u2014 to a dangerous degree \u2014 when she faced the wild animal hiding out in her brother Erik\u2019s latrine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI got out there and sat down on the toilet and immedia<\/a>tely something bit my butt right as I sat down,\u201d Shannon said, according to the Daily Mail<\/a>. \u201cI jumped up and I screamed when it happ<\/a>ened.\u201d<\/p>\n

But she initially assumed a small creature like a squirrel had landed the blow.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What happened next was something out of a horror movie: Erik heard his sister screaming from about 150 yards away. Armed with a headlamp, he lifted the toilet seat to find the wild beast \u201cjust right there at the level of the toilet seat, just looking right back up through the hole, right at me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Returning to the yurt, the siblings located a first-aid kit to treat Stevens\u2019 wounds, which Erik \u2014 whose girlfriend was also on the trip<\/a> \u2014 suspects may have come from a swipe of the bear\u2019s paw. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was bleeding, but it wasn\u2019t super bad,\u201d according to Shannon, who was prepared to find further medical help, if needed, in Haines, about 17 miles away.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The siblings estimate that the smell of the sizzling sausages contributed to the tush offensive by attracting the hungry bear to their camp. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just going to be better about looking inside the toilet before sitting down, for sure,\u2019\u201d Shannon said. She guessed that the outhouse made a good \u201clittle den\u201d for the cold weather. <\/p>\n

Carl Koch, a biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game<\/a> Wildlife Management, noted that bear sightings have been up since a dearth of salmon and berries kept bears from fattening up for the winter, forcing them to venture out in freezing temperatures for a bite of food \u2014 or fanny. <\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as getting swatted on the butt when you\u2019re sitting down in winter, she could be the only person on Earth that this has ever happened to, for all I know,\u201d Koch said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
