{"id":184418,"date":"2021-02-21T02:41:08","date_gmt":"2021-02-20T23:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/angry-residents-call-nyc-eaterys-expansion-opportunistic-move\/"},"modified":"2021-02-21T02:41:08","modified_gmt":"2021-02-20T23:41:08","slug":"angry-residents-call-nyc-eaterys-expansion-opportunistic-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/angry-residents-call-nyc-eaterys-expansion-opportunistic-move\/","title":{"rendered":"#Angry residents call NYC eatery&#8217;s expansion &#8216;opportunistic move&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Angry residents call NYC eatery&#8217;s expansion &#8216;opportunistic move&#8217;<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>One of Manhattan\u2019s priciest restaurants wants to permanently take over the courtyard of a nearby landmarked building for outdoor dining.<\/p>\n<p>And the move has infuriated residents.<\/p>\n<p>Marea\u00a0is asking a local community board to let them squeeze 24 diners and an outdoor music venue into the courtyard at 240 Central Park South \u2014 even after the coronavirus pandemic ends, according to documents presented to Manhattan\u2019s Community Board 5 last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an opportunistic move by\u00a0Marea\u00a0to use the pandemic as an excuse to expand into our garden with total disregard for our quality of life,\u201d said a longtime resident of the building who did not want to be identified.<\/p>\n<p>Co-owned by former Merrill Lynch co-president Ahmass Fakahany,\u00a0Marea\u00a0is a power dining spot for celebrities and Wall Street titans.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant\u2019s signature dish, fusilli with wine-braised octopus and bone marrow, goes for $38, and a glass of Barolo Riserva costs $260. Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Beyonce and Jay-Z are among its bold-face regulars.<\/p>\n<p>The Michelin-starred restaurant also wants to extend its liquor license and permanently OK the 62 new outdoor seats it put in on the sidewalk during the pandemic, the Community Board <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lication says.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image residents last summer when they placed tables on the sidewalk of Central Park South, leaving only a narrow corridor for pedestrians and blocking access to a city bus stop.<\/p>\n<p>The outdoor dining area is separated by plastic sheeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I walk my dog on the sidewalk there is barely enough space,\u201d said a resident who did not want to be identified for fear of retaliation from the building\u2019s owner, Central Park South Associates LLC, which is also the landlord for\u00a0Marea. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" said they are worried the outdoor flame torches set up by the restaurant on the sidewalk are potential fire hazards.<\/p>\n<p>And while local politicians have embraced outdoor dining during the pandemic, City Council member Keith Powers, who represents the neighborhood, said restaurants need to be respectful of their neighbors. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img community,\u201d he told The Post. <\/p>\n<p>Marea\u00a0must first get the approval of the local Community Board before pursuing an extension of their liquor license. <\/p>\n<p>A Community Board meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, said \u201cenraged\u201d residents who told The Post they were upset Community Board representatives had not organized an \u201con-site\u201d visit during the
