Upstate Rep. Tom Reed says he is considering a challenge to embattled Gov. Andrew Cuomo next year, according to a report.<\/a><\/p>\n

Reed, a six-term Republican from Corning, said he\u2019s \u201cdefinitely looking\u201d at running, saying in a radio interview on \u201cOn Fox Across America with Jimmy Failla\u201d that \u201cGov. Cuomo needs to be taken down.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven an opportunity to do my part to serve and try to change the direction of the state, we are definitely looking at it,\u201d Reed said.<\/p>\n

Reed later told Fox News<\/a> there had been a death threat against his family during last year\u2019s election and in deciding on a potential gubernatorial run, \u201cthe most critical deciding factor is my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some Republicans are trying to convince Long Island Rep. Lee Zeldin to take on Cuomo in 2022.<\/p>\n

Cuomo, who is enmeshed in a scandal over his administration\u2019s handling of COVID-19 cases at nursing homes, has said he will seek a fourth term.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
