If visiting, you must make sure to stay alert and also not take photos of locals, or they may challenge you and become aggressive. This part of the city is free for all to visit, but there is a lot of organized crime. For years the area operated under its own laws and was independent of the City of Copenhagen until local authorities took back control in 2004.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hippies set the town up in the early \u201970s, and it\u2019s well known for its cannabis trade. There are still around 850 residents living here to this day. You\u2019ll find some amazing street art, sculptures, shacks, and of course many stalls selling marijuana. It\u2019s highly advised that you do not buy drugs from here as people can be dangerous.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Little_Mermaid\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Little_Mermaid\"><\/span>The Little Mermaid<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The small bronze statue of the little mermaid is located on the Langelinie Promenade. The statue is just over a meter tall and is often referred to as the symbol of Copenhagen. Hans Christian Andersen of Denmark wrote the original Little Mermaid story, which later became a Disney hit. Rosenborg is the home of the Danish crown jewels and one of the world\u2019s most renowned collections of Venetian glass. The palace is perfect for looking around on a dull day or if you\u2019re interested in the Monarchy. If that\u2019s not your thing, you\u2019ll also find some beautiful gardens which are free to stroll around.<\/p>\n<p>If you plan on visiting the highly popular museum there, it\u2019s advised you to book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. The tower was built as an observatory in the 17<sup>th<\/sup> century. It\u2019s also part of the Trinitatis Church which was used by the university as a chapel and library. As you climb the tower, you\u2019ll ascend a moderate spiral ramp that leads all the way to the top of the structure.
