The Lusitans, the Romans, the Germanic people who invaded the Roman Empire, Moorish and consequent the Reconquista have all been in Portugal. Moreover, the age of discoveries only exacerbated\u00a0Portugal as a place where different cultures passed by.<\/p>\n<p>#5\u00a0Portugal is mainly characterized by a warm temperate, <strong>Mediterranean climate<\/strong> with a distinct wet season in winter. Summers are hot and dry, however, with\u00a0refreshing sea breezes, making for very pleasant conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Usually, the north is colder and wetter\u00a0and the south hotter\u00a0and dryer. Most of the population lives close to the sea.<\/p>\n<p>The north is more mountainous and the south is relatively flat, particularly the Alentejo region. Similarly\u00a0to the other western countries the younger generations are much less religious thus the number of atheists and irreligious\u00a0people is quickly increasing.<\/p>\n<p>#8 Portuguese is 6th the most spoken languages in the world, with more than 220 Million native speakers (mostly because of Brazil). While traveling to Portugal you probably won\u2019t have trouble finding English speaking people, particularly in Algarve and other touristy areas. Portugal is the current European Champion which was a major thing for such a small country. Even smaller towns that only used to be known by the Portuguese are now receiving foreign tourists. However, and apart from very specific, touristy places, you won\u2019t feel that there are too many tourists and have your experience ruined.<\/p>\n<p>#13 Algarve and its beaches are the main tourist destination in Portugal. Despite not actually being in the Mediterranean, the seawater is warm and clear, the sand is yellow and soft and they are very scenic.
