This is what he came up with!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are a number of things <strong>Australia is famous for<\/strong>. From deadly creatures to meat pies, golden beaches to Australian slang pretty much a whole new language.<\/p>\n<p>Australia is often seen as one of those countries that are completely unique. These are the furry icons of Australia, whether they hop, waddle strut, or swim, they all bring something unique to Australian wildlife.<\/p>\n<p>Playing into the first point, some of these animals can also be dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>Kangaroos are incredibly strong and their kick can really hurt. The swimming platypus, although they look cute, they have stinging barbs under their arms for protection. Not everyone is a fan of this vegetable flavored yeast extract and can you really blame them?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This savoury spread is an acquired taste for sure, as even a thin layer can be too much for some.<\/p>\n<p>Commonly spread on toast (though I have seen it go well with a variety of foods), it\u2019s found in most kitchens throughout Australia ever since it was invented back in 1922.<\/p>\n<p>So what does vegemite taste like? Well\u2026 it\u2019s hard to describe. I\u2019ve heard that it\u2019s a \u201creally intense soy sauce\u201d and judging by the salty flavor, it\u2019s not the worst way to put the taste down into words.<\/p>\n<p>One thing to note, Vegemite isn\u2019t nearly the same as marmite. You\u2019re sure to raise a few eyebrows if you confuse the Australian national spread for the English version of marmite.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Beaches_are_pretty_amazing\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Beaches_are_pretty_amazing\"><\/span>#4 Beaches are pretty amazing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Growing up on Australia\u2019s east coast there wasn\u2019t a shortage of waves breaking on golden sands.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you had to pick one image that springs to mind when Australia is mentioned, there\u2019s a pretty good chance it\u2019s of a beach with an endless blue horizon.<\/p>\n<p>Plenty of Australia is surrounded by beaches and most are safe to swim at, some specific areas of the country are known for crocodiles and sharks infesting the waters .\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As long as you swim where others are enjoying the surf, or between the red and yellow flags (indicates a lifeguard patrolled beach) you\u2019ll be fine!<\/p>\n<p>Bondi Beach (in Sydney) is one of Australia\u2019s most well known stretches of golden sands and rolling surf. Yet, it\u2019s still one of the most common things people associate with Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Red sand covers the open plains that can reach 50C during the summer months. While not many people call the outback live in the Outback compared to the coastline of the country, plants and animals call this Australian icon home.<\/p>\n<p>Covering millions of square kilometers and stretching into 3 states and 1 province, the Australian Outback is huge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While it may be a source of great adventure, make sure you\u2019re well equipped and aware of the risks of venturing into the red center of Australia.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Australian_foods_are_unique\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Australian_foods_are_unique\"><\/span>#6 Australian foods are unique\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>From meat pies to a backyard BBQ, Australia has a lot of foods that aren\u2019t totally unique to Australia but defines a lot of the iconic food you\u2019ll see around.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start with pies. Being a tradesman back home, the typical \u201csmoko\u201d (that\u2019s your first break at work) meal was a cheese and bacon pie with a \u201cchoccie\u201d (chocolate) milk. Don\u2019t worry, we will get to the typical slang Australians use in a little bit.<\/p>\n<p>The variation of pies in Australia means there is something for every taste bud.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>BBQ is also an extremely common way to cook a great meal in Australia. But no, \u201dshrimp on the barbie\u201d isn\u2019t <em>really <\/em>a thing. For a start, we call them prawns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A sausage sizzle, or snags, is a common meal to come from a barbecue. If you\u2019re ever by the hardware store called Bunnings, keep an eye out for their nation famous sausage sizzle.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_The_Iconic_Sydney_Harbor_Bridge_and_Opera_House\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_The_Iconic_Sydney_Harbor_Bridge_and_Opera_House\"><\/span>#7 The Iconic Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I can think of a few important structures, but one of the most famous things about Australia is the image of Sydney\u2019s Opera House and the Harbor Bridge next to it.<\/p>\n<p>Sydney Harbor Bridge \u2013 This giant metal arch stands 134meters (440ft) above the water and took 9 years to build. If you\u2019re after a great view of Sydney, you can climb the bridge on a guided tour.<\/p>\n<p>Sydney Opera House. The most recognizable performing arts building in all of Australia sits on Sydney Harbour.
