Mayor Bill De Blasio admitted on Monday that New York City acted too briskly when it shuttered Trump-operated ice skating rinks \u2014 only to later change course.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the action was taken a little faster than it should have been because there was not an alternative in place,\u201d de Blasio said on NY1.<\/p>\n

Hizzoner\u00a0had announced last month that he was nixing the city\u2019s contracts with the Trump Organization, alleging then-President Trump had incited the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.<\/p>\n

But City Hall on Sunday reversed the move, which would have seen Lasker and Wollman rinks in Central Park\u00a0close six weeks ahead of their typical April closing dates.<\/p>\n

The mayor explained that while he wanted to freeze out Trump over the siege, he also didn\u2019t mean to ruin anyone\u2019s ice skating plans.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happ<\/a>ened here is two needs that both were important and weren\u2019t balanced the way they could have been,\u201d\u00a0de Blasio said Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the beginning, it was quite clear \u2013 after the horrible events at the Capitol in DC \u2013 that this was no longer an acceptable situation and the city moved to sever all ties with the Trump Organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI always wanted to make sure that we kept ice skating available for kids and families throughout the season,\u201d he continued. \u201cThere should have been a different approach, honestly, to make sure that was done.\u201d<\/p>\n

The city\u2019s stunning policy reversal came after\u00a0devastated\u00a0skaters\u00a0fumed over the weekend that they shouldn\u2019t be kept off the ice due to the mayor\u2019s beef with the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s business group, run by his sons Donald Jr. and Eric, has operated the rinks for more than three decades.<\/p>\n

Eric Trump cheered the decision to keep the rinks open on Twitter<\/a> Sunday, telling de Blasio that he looked forward to thanking him in person.<\/p>\n

But that\u2019ll only happen when hell freezes over, Hizzoner said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat meeting won\u2019t be happening,\u201d de Blasio said. \u201cI am not meeting with him or any member of that family after what they did to this country.\u201d<\/p>\n
