Which one should you visit? Both Malacca (or Melaka) and Georgetown (in Penang) are UNESCO World Heritage cities since 2008, and some of the most interesting cities within Malaysia. They were nominated together as the \u201c<em>historic cities of the Straits of Malacca\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to UNESCO itself<em>, \u201d Malacca and Georgetown have developed over 500 years of trading and cultural exchanges between East and West in the Stra<\/em><em>its of Malacca. The influences of Asia and Europe have endowed the towns with a specific multicultural heritage that is both tangible and intangible.<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n<p> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dpbolvw.net\/click-8832156-12478253\"> <noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tqlkg.com\/image-8832156-12478253\" width=\"100%\" height=\"90\" alt=\"Tourradar\" border=\"0\"><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tqlkg.com\/image-8832156-12478253\" width=\"100%\" height=\"90\" alt=\"Tourradar\" border=\"0\"><\/a> \u00a0These two cities, however, are 500 km away from each other and in different directions from Kuala Lumpur. The location makes most <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ers struggling to decide if should they <strong>visit Malacca or<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Georgetown<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Malacca_vs_Penang\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Malacca_vs_Penang\"><\/span>Malacca vs Penang<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_historical_importance_of_Malacca_and_Georgetown\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_historical_importance_of_Malacca_and_Georgetown\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The historical importance of Malacca and Georgetown<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Although both cities carry a huge cultural heritage earned through the centuries, in our opinion <strong>Malacca<\/strong> was much more important\u00a0and for a longer period of time. It was relevant for many centuries and lived through Malay, Portuguese, Dutch and English rule! Featuring residential and commercial buildings, George Town represents the British era from the end of the 18th century. The buildings are mostly from the 18th and 19th century but they look less taken care of. Maybe because they aren\u2019t as striking as the ones in Malacca.<\/p>\n<p>Georgetown old center clearly shows its colonial history and architecture, though\u00a0it also <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears to have deteriorated over time and worse preserved\/recuperated than Malacca. Some of the most famous attractions in Penang are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Penang Hill \u2013 <\/strong>Although the view from the top is amazing, it felt like a tourist trap with thousands of people trying to get there. In this regard, Georgetown and Penang are a better choice. Therefore both options are budget-friendly. However, Malacca is cheaper than Georgetown. This is even more obvious during peak season and school holidays when accommodation becomes much more expensive in Penang. If you coming from Singapore, Malacca is the obvious choice as it\u2019s much closer. Likewise, if you are coming from Thailand or Langkawi (there\u2019s a direct ferry between the islands) Penang is much easier and cheaper to reach. Malacca and Georgetown complement each other historically and culturally.<\/li>\n<li>If you are really into <strong>history<\/strong> (or are Portuguese or Dutch) then <strong>visit<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Malacca<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Do\u00a0you want to feel and <strong>wander around<\/strong> an old <strong>town<\/strong> with many historic buildings\/ruins, <strong>visit<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Malacca<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>If the <strong>food scene<\/strong> is very important to you, <strong>visit\u00a0Georgetown<\/strong>. We wanted to<strong> visit Malacca<\/strong> and\u00a0see it with our own eyes and we weren\u2019t disappointed.
