A fertile climate, mountain tops with green slopes, beautiful beaches with crystal clear water, archaeological sights and a glimpse of glory of the past, in combination with a cosmopolitan air of the present, are a few traits that make someone characterize Kos<\/strong> as \u201cThe Jewel Of The Aegean<\/em>\u201c. From ancient times the island itself has learned to host important personalities such as Hippocrates,<\/strong> father of modern medicine, who lived and taught his students under the historical plane tree which stands in the town of Kos. A walk through the historical monuments and a tour to the few remaining columns of the temple of Asclepius,<\/strong> an afternoon walk to the castle of Antimachia and many more, will fill you with knowledge, images and in particular with pride.<\/p>\n

As a popular tourist destination the island itself satisfies its visitors. Greek and foreign tourists, wealthy kings, emirs and princes often come close to the coastline of Kos with their luxurious yachts and enjoy its magnificent beaches and local dishes. Specifically the Russian business man Abramorich<\/strong> who has lately visited the island stated that \u201cEvery time i visit Kos I forget to leave\u201d He, like any other visitor, receives the typical hospitality that the locals have been offering over the years.<\/p>\n

Many are those who visit the thermal springs at the southeast part of the island. The water originates from a slit in the mountain and offers its visitors healing properties.<\/p>\n

The main transport vehicle on the island is the bicycle, sometimes with 2 wheels and sometimes with 4. Several people refer to Kos as \u201cThe bicycle island\u201d. The roads are designed in a way that makes it easy for anyone to discover the island\u2019s beauty, riding a bicycle while enjoying the summer breeze.<\/p>\n

Beaches with crystal clear water surround the island making it the 3rd most popular tourist destination in Greece. Five of these beaches have earned \u201cThe Blue Flag<\/em>\u201d water quality awards. A title that shows its aquatic wealth.<\/p>\n

There are many things that deserve a try on Hippocrates Island. The traditional sweet tomato desert, the stuffed vine leaves, the homemade cinnamon drink, the freshly caught fish and seafood, the red cheese, the traditional dishes with an Ouzo, chilled drinks on the beach, a mini cruise to the close islands and the lively nightlife!<\/p>\n

Starting off from Kos town where you can enjoy a lavish award winning Greek breakfast right on the beach at the H20<\/strong> hotel before starting a tour round the island. Heading towards the villages the first one you come across is Zipari<\/strong>, carrying on I would recommend to visit Zia,<\/strong> the highest residential area of Kos. The housing follows the island\u2019s town planning and architecture. On the main road of the village you can find many shops with traditional and hand made souvenirs, spices and sweets. It\u2019s worth making a stop at DIKAIOS a family run taverna, and try Christina\u2019s traditional dishes.<\/p>\n

In the centre of the island you can find Antimachia,<\/strong> a small town where you can go back in time by visiting the TRADITIONAL HOUSE. Nights In Kardamena<\/strong> will be your favourite spot if you decide to enjoy the august moon for a breezy cocktail at the red house CASSA ROSA. Marmari, Tingaki and Mastihari will offer you their beaches, restaurants and chilled coffee bars. Stopping at Pyli<\/strong> you will be surprised by its natural landscape and if you feel tired have a rest at the natural mountain spring.<\/p>\n

Finally, at the other end of the island, you will find Kefalos with its famous Paradise Beach. Entering the village and feeling tired and hungry, make a stop for some \u201cmezedes\u201d at KOMBOLOGAKI meze house, and let the view from the little island of Saint Nicholas confirm your visit to Kos.<\/p>\n
