\n WASHINGTON \u2014 Sen. Lindsey Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, clashed with Democratic colleagues on Thursday over his review of the Russia investigation \u2014 telling them: \u201cYou think I\u2019m in Trump\u2019s pocket.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawmakers on the powerful GOP-led committee traded barbs on Thursday over the North Carolina Republican\u2019s move to subpoena 53 current and former government officials involved in the error-riddled Russia probe and Mueller investigation, including ex-FBI director James Comey.<\/p>\n

Democrats on the panel accused Republicans of being \u201cpolitical errand boys\u201d who were \u201cbolstering conspiracy theories\u201d for Trump\u2019s re-election campaign \u2014 allegations that Graham was not going to take lying down.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt matters to me whether or not the No. 2\u00a0 guy at the FBI, Comey, knew that the document was no longer reliable and kept using it,\u201d Graham said of a warrant which FBI agents deliberately misrepresented in order to spy on a Trump 2016 campaign aide.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou all could care less. That really says a lot,\u201d Graham added.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know you don\u2019t agree with what I\u2019m doing. You think I\u2019m in Trump\u2019s pocket. I get all that. It\u2019s not lost on me of what you think and I\u2019m sad because I like you all,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut if you expect me to punt, forget it. We\u2019re not going to punt. We\u2019re not going to have a rule of law for Republicans and a rule of law for Democrats.<\/p>\n

The hearings, which began Wednesday with testimony from former attorney general<\/a> Rod Rosenstein, follow an excoriating review by the Justice Department\u2019s chief watchdog last December that found the Mueller investigation was littered with errors.<\/p>\n

Graham and committee Republicans want to haul dozens of officials before Congress to testify, including former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe and national security advisor Sally Yates, former National Intelligence director James Clapp<\/a>er, current FBI chief Christopher Wray and Attorney General Bill Barr, John Podesta, the chair of Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 presidential campaign, Susan Rice, Barack Obama\u2019s national security advisor and FBI lovebirds Lisa Page and Peter Strzok.<\/p>\n

But the decision to also subpoena Steve Richetti, former chief of staff to Joe Biden and the chair of his presidential election campaign, rankled Democrats who accused the Republican-led committee of doing the president\u2019s bidding.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do we happen to have the campaign manager for Joe Biden\u2019s presidential campaign on that list?\u201d asked Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m afraid it\u2019s very obvious. This is about a president who just can\u2019t get over it and maybe he never will, and a chairman who wants him to have another day to make his point about how he was mistreated,\u201d Durbin said.<\/p>\n

President Trump has repeatedly maintained that the investigation into whether his campaign colluded with the Russian government to win the 2016 presidential election was a politically-motivated \u201cwitch hunt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Democrats on the committee are seeking an amendment that would allow them to haul their own witnesses before Congress, including Trump\u2019s convicted former personal attorney Michael Cohen.<\/p>\n

Both sides however agreed they want to hear from someone representing former special counsel Robert Mueller.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
