A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away (it was this galaxy), Ron Moore<\/strong>, a writer on various\u00a0Star Trek<\/em> shows and the creator of the\u00a0Battlestar Galactica\u00a0<\/em>reboot, was attached to write a\u00a0Star Wars<\/em><\/strong> TV series<\/a> \u2013\u00a0Star Wars: Underworld<\/em>. However, Moore\u2019s series was set up before Disney bought Lucasfilm, and the sale killed-off the show before it really got off the ground.<\/p>\n

Now, Moore has signed a big deal with Disney, and he\u2019s still interested in making a\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> show. Could it finally happen?<\/p>\n

In 2011, Ron Moore was commissioned to help develop a Star Wars<\/em> live-action TV series that would air on ABC. Moore certainly had the credentials for the gig \u2013 he wrote episodes of\u00a0Star Trek: The Next Generation<\/em>, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine<\/em>, and Star Trek: Voyager<\/em> and he developed the\u00a0Battlestar Galactica<\/em> reboot series. As Moore told it:<\/p>\n

\u201cI was one of several, there was a bunch of international writers they assembled\u2026 we would gather up at Skywalker Ranch once every six to eight weeks, something like that. And we would break stories together, and right after we\u2019d go off and write some drafts and bring \u2018em back, and George and we would sit down and critique them, and then do another draft and break more stories\u2026 It was great! It was a ball, it was a lot of fun. It didn\u2019t happen ultimately, we wrote I\u2019d say somewhere in the 40-something, 48 scripts, something like that\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A year later, George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney, and the series Moore was working on \u2013\u00a0Star Wars: Underworld<\/em> \u2013 officially bit the dust. But Moore\u2019s desire to make something\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>-related hasn\u2019t subsided, and now he has an even better chance of making it happen \u2013 but don\u2019t get too excited just yet. Earlier this month it was reported<\/a> that Moore had walked away from his deal with Sony to sign a big deal with\u00a0Disney-owned 20th Television. Moore is developing a\u00a0Swiss Family Robinson<\/em> series for Disney+, and word just broke that he\u2019s\u00a0also<\/em> working on a Disney+ show called\u00a0The Society of Explorers and Adventurers<\/em><\/strong>, which is set in a world where all the themed lands and characters from the Disney parks actually exist in their own reality.<\/p>\n

And what of\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>? While speaking with THR<\/a>, Moore said he\u2019s definitely still interested in a\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> show \u2013 but there\u2019s no guarantee it\u2019s going to happen, even with his new deal:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always something that\u2019s on my mind but clearly, they have their\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0plate full at the moment. I\u2019m not sure this is the moment that you go in and pitch a new\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0series over there. I would love to do something in that franchise. It was fun to go work on the abortive live-action show that I did way back when. I got a tremendous amount of thrill of writing lines for Darth Vader in one episode and it would be fun to do that again. It\u2019s just not the first piece of development I\u2019m doing over there but hopefully I\u2019ll be allowed to do that at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As far as Star Wars<\/em> shows go,\u00a0Disney+ already has\u00a0The Mandalorian<\/em> under their belt, and they\u2019re deep in production on\u00a0Star Wars: Andor<\/em>, a series focused on\u00a0Diego Luna\u2019s character from\u00a0Rogue One: A Star Wars Story<\/em>, cameras are about to roll on\u00a0Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em> series starring\u00a0Ewan McGregor, and then there\u2019s the recently announced\u00a0The Book of Boba Fett<\/em>,\u00a0Rangers of the New Republi<\/em>c,\u00a0The Bad Batch<\/em>,\u00a0The Acolyte<\/em>, Star Wars: Visions<\/em>, A Droid Story<\/em>, and\u00a0Ahsoka<\/em>. So, yeah, Moore is right \u2013 the\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> plate does appear to be pretty full over at Disney+. But now that Moore has a deal set up, don\u2019t be surprised if he lands on a\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> project sooner or later.<\/p>\n
