It turns out that before he became Spider-Man, Tom Holland<\/strong> auditioned to join a galaxy far, far away. In a new interview, Holland reveals that he auditioned to play Finn in\u00a0Star Wars: The Force Awaken<\/strong>s<\/em>, a role that went to John Boyega<\/strong> in the end. And based on Holland\u2019s story, it\u2019s no surprise he didn\u2019t land the part since the audition didn\u2019t go so well.<\/p>\n

Tom Holland has become a big star thanks to his memorable work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though he\u2019s not the first to play Spider-Man\/Peter Parker, Holland does bring a lot of fun, nervous, nerdy energy to the role. But in some alternate timeline, Holland might not have landed the Spider-Man role in the MCU because he would\u2019ve been too busy with another mega-franchise\u00a0\u2013 Star Wars<\/em>. Speaking with\u00a0Backstage<\/a>, the actor \u2013 who has both\u00a0Cherry<\/em> and the long-delayed\u00a0Chaos Walking<\/em> arriving in the next few weeks \u2013 revealed he auditioned for the role of Finn in\u00a0Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/em>:<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember my audition for Star Wars, I was like four or five auditions in, and I think I was auditioning for John Boyega\u2019s role. I remember doing this scene with this lady, bless her, and she was just a drone. So I was doing all of this, like, \u2018We gotta get back to the ship!\u2019 And she was going, \u2018Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop.\u2019 I just couldn\u2019t stop laughing. I found it so funny. And I felt really bad, because she was trying really hard to be a convincing android or drone or whatever they\u2019re called. Yeah, I obviously didn\u2019t get the part. That wasn\u2019t my best moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s an amusing story, but the curmudgeon in me also reads that and thinks, \u201cWow, Tom Holland is weirdly unprofessional here!\u201d I mean, sure, it\u00a0is<\/em> a little silly to be pretending you\u2019re interacting with a droid, but is that any goofier than pretending to be Spider-Man? Holland had to audition for that, too, and he managed to not crack up and blow it.<\/p>\n

In any case, it all worked out in the end. Holland got to be Spider-Man, and John Boyega landed the role of Finn. I know Boyega has expressed justifiable disapp<\/a>ointment with how the\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> sequel trilogy handled Finn and sidelined the character, but his work in\u00a0Force Awakens<\/em> is great, and I have no doubt that he was a much better choice for that role than Holland. And, coincidentally enough, Holland got to co-star with\u00a0Force Awakens<\/em>\u00a0lead Daisy Ridley in\u00a0Chaos Walking<\/em>.<\/p>\n
