A rival to Robinhood is encouraging users to dump the stock-trading app in favor of its own \u2014 and it\u2019s tapping Michael Bolton to seal the deal.<\/p>\n

Public \u2014 a New York-based startup that\u2019s looking to capitalize on Robinhood\u2019s recent trouble with regulators and customers alike \u2014 tweeted out a video on Tuesday of the breakup balladeer singing a version of his 1989 hit \u201cHow Am I Supposed to Live Without You?\u201d<\/p>\n

The new track, \u201cHow Am I Supposed to Trade Without You?\u201d follows an acrimonious end to the \u201cReddit<\/a> Rally,\u201d in which users accused Robinhood of tanking shares of companies like Game<\/a>Stop and AMC Entertainment with surprise trading restrictions.<\/p>\n

In the new lyrics, a straight-faced Bolton delves into accusations that Robinhood sells \u201corder flow\u201d to big hedge funds like Citadel Investments whose financial interests aren\u2019t aligned with those of mom-and-pop investors.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could hardly believe it, What I saw on Reddit today,\u201d Bolton croons as a piano tinkles in the background. \u201cWas hoping that I\u2019d get it straight from you. They told me \u2019bout \u2018order flow,\u2019 So I Googled, now I know \u2014 I think I gotta find somebody new.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo tell me all about it \u2014 tell me who you sell my trades to,\u201d Bolton belts out, perched in a recording studio amid spliced-in stock footage of flaming roses, a shattered wine glass and a guy walking alone on a beach. <\/p>\n

\u201cTell me how am I supposed to trade without you? My stocks been in your app for oh so long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Public, which currently claims 1 million users versus Robinhood\u2019s 13 million, allows customers to buy fractional shares of stocks and ETFs. On Wednesday, Public said it had raised a new $220 million funding round from existing investors. <\/p>\n

The company also said it no longer engages in payment for order flow, and that it is now routing its trades directly to exchanges like the New York Stock Exchange while encouraging users to tip on their trades.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s time I must be moving on,\u201d Bolton sings, closing out the pitch. \u201cGonna transfer all my stuff and I\u2019ll be gone!\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
