That\u2019s just a fraction of the $49 billion that AT&amp;T paid for DirecTV in 2015.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       AT&amp;T <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/at-t-books-15-5-billion-charge-on-directv-unit-11611749205\" class=\"icon none\">booked a $15.5 billion write-down<\/a> on its floundering pay-TV business in January.
