Today, we\u2019re watching a video essay about why Stanley Kubrick shot so many takes.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" id=\"block-f2a66749-703e-4022-b08d-bf18407921d9\"\/>Water\u2019s wet, the sun rises, and <strong>Stanley Kubrick<\/strong> was a perfectionist. <\/p>\n<p>Only, \u201cperfectionism\u201d was a label that Kubrick himself rejected. And once you dig into the \u201cwhy\u201d of Kubrick\u2019s notorious habit of shooting many, <em>many <\/em>takes, it becomes clear that, while unconventional, perfectionism doesn\u2019t quite define his methods. Methods which some actors have described as torturous, with the number of takes at times catapulted into the hundred range.<\/p>\n<p>As the video below explains, there was never any concrete idealized version of how Kubrick wanted things done. Indeed, by his own admission, Kubrick rarely knew what he wanted but was exacting about what he <em>didn\u2019t<\/em> <em>want<\/em>. His shooting schedules may have been lengthy, but that was no accident. Kubrick allotted time to get what he needed out of actors. Namely: for them to \u201cbe\u201d their characters rather than to \u201cmake choices.\u201d And that, depending on the actor, takes time.<\/p>\n<p>Whether the ends (a string of bonafide masterpieces) justify Kubrick\u2019s means (which were at times <em>quite mean<\/em>) is a different story. But, at the risk of getting lost in the auteur sauce, there\u2019s certainly something to be gained by demystifying<em> <\/em>Kubrick\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach.
