Ryan Gosling<\/strong> already has several new projects in the works, but one more won\u2019t hurt. Gosling is now set to star in\u00a0The Actor<\/em><\/strong>, a thriller based on the\u00a0Donald E. Westlake novel Memory<\/em>. Gosling will play a 1950s actor from New York named\u00a0Paul Cole, who is beaten, left for dead, and suffering from amnesia in a small, mysterious Ohio town.\u00a0Duke Johnson<\/strong>, co-director of\u00a0Anomalisa<\/em>, will helm a script<\/a> he co-wrote with\u00a0Stephen Cooney<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Deadline broke the news<\/a> on Ryan Gosling starring in\u00a0The Actor<\/em>, revealing that Gosling will play \u201cNew York actor Paul Cole, who is beaten and left for dead in 1950s Ohio. Strip<\/a>ped of his memory and stranded in a mysterious small town, Paul struggles to get back home, piece together and reclaim the life and identity he\u2019s lost. The Actor follows a journey relatable to many: to find home, to find love, and ultimately to find ourselves.\u201d
\nThe film is an adaptation of the Donald E. Westlake novel\u00a0Memory<\/em>, which has the following synopsis: \u201cHospitalized after a liaison with another man\u2019s wife ends in violence, Paul Cole has just one goal: to rebuild his shattered life. But with his memory damaged, the police hounding him, and no way even to get home, Paul\u2019s facing steep odds \u2013 and a bleak fate if he fails\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Donald E. Westlake wrote more than 100 novels during his career, and\u00a0Memory<\/em> was actually a \u201clost\u201d novel that was published after his death. As the book jacket puts it: \u201cThis final, never-before-published novel by three-time Edgar Award winner Donald E. Westlake is a noir masterpiece, a dark and painful portrait of a man\u2019s struggle against merciless forces that threaten to strip him of his very identity.\u201d Duke Johnson is directing the pic and writing the script with Stephen Cooney.<\/p>\n

Gosling hasn\u2019t appeared in a feature film since 2018\u2019s criminally underrated\u00a0First Man<\/em>, but he has several projects on the horizon. He\u2019s starring in the Russo Brothers Netflix movie\u00a0The Grey Man<\/em> alongside Chris Evans, he\u2019s making an astronaut movie with Phil Lord and Chris Miller called\u00a0Project Hail Mary<\/em>, he has an untitled movie about a stuntman lined-up with director\u00a0David Leitch, and he\u2019s set to star in Leigh Whannell\u2019s new take on\u00a0The Wolfman<\/em>. With all that in mind, it\u2019s unclear when he\u2019ll get around to shooting\u00a0The Actor<\/em>. Both\u00a0The Grey Man<\/em> and\u00a0Wolfman<\/em> are reported to be in pre-production, so he\u2019ll be working on those titles first.<\/p>\n
