\n President Trump blasted Mayor Bill de Blasio after the New York City Council app<\/a>roved slashing the NYPD\u2019s budget by $1 billion, urging the Big Apple to spend the money \u201cfighting crime.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNYC is cutting Police $\u2019s by ONE BILLION DOLLARS, and yet the @NYCMayor is going to paint a big, expensive, yellow Black Lives Matter sign on Fifth Avenue, denigrating this luxury Avenue,\u201d the president wrote on Twitter<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will further antagonize New York\u2019s Finest, who LOVE New York & vividly remember the horrible BLM chant, \u2018Pigs In A Blanket, Fry \u2018Em Like Bacon\u2019. Maybe our GREAT Police, who have been neutralized and scorned by a mayor who hates & disrespects them, won\u2019t let this symbol of hate be affixed to New York\u2019s greatest street. Spend this money fighting crime instead!\u201d Trump continued.<\/p>\n

The city council just after midnight Wednesday passed an $88.1 billion budget that cuts $1 billion in spending from the police department.<\/p>\n

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea on Tuesday called the cuts \u201cconcerning\u201d and warned they would \u201cimpact our ability, I believe, to keep New Yorkers safe in some way, shape and form.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCutting overtime, cutting head strength at a time of rising crime, is going to be an extreme challenge for the men and women of this department \u2014 extreme,\u201d Shea said.<\/p>\n

The cuts come as the rate of shootings has increased in the city.<\/p>\n

The NYPD recorded 63 shootings between June 22 and last Sunday \u2014 an increase of 26 from the same one-week period last year.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
