The upcoming\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em> <\/strong>movie is headed right to Paramount+ \u2013 and it has company. A new\u00a0Pet Sematary<\/em><\/strong> film, which will serve as a prequel to the 2019 adaptation of Stephen King\u2019s horror classic, is headed to the nascent streaming service as well. The news<\/a> comes as part of Paramount\u2019s plan to overhaul their release strategy as the theatrical experience is called more into question as streaming becomes dominant.<\/p>\n

Paramount announced big plans to change up their app<\/a>roach to new movies<\/a> today, revealing that big blockbuster titles like new\u00a0Mission: Impossible<\/em> sequels and\u00a0A Quiet Place Part II<\/em> would debut on their streaming service Paramount+ 45 days after they hit theaters. But the studio is\u00a0also<\/em> planning to release titles straight to Paramount+, skipping theaters entirely.
\nOne such title is the new\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em> movie. We\u2019ve already reported on this one \u2013 it will be written by Christopher Landon<\/strong>, the filmmaker behind the\u00a0Happy Death Day<\/em> films as well as\u00a0Freaky<\/em>, and directed by\u00a0William Eubank<\/strong>, who helmed the excellent monster movie\u00a0Underwater<\/em>. There are no real plot details at the moment, but we know that the new\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em> movie is going to be a \u201cnew, unexpected chapter\u201d in the saga. The first Paranormal Activity<\/em> arrived in 2007 and became a monster hit, launching several sequels and an increasingly confusing mythology.<\/p>\n

Another title destined for Paramount+ is a new\u00a0Pet Sematary<\/em> movie. This is described as an origin story for Stephen King\u2019s tale of terror that will explore the history of the cursed burial ground that has the power to raise the dead.\u00a0Jeff Buhler<\/strong>, who wrote the 2019\u00a0Pet Sematary<\/em>, is set to pen the script, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura<\/strong>, who produced the 2019 film, is producing. Di Bonaventura has actually teased a possible prequel in the past, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think if there\u2019s anything here, there\u2019s a prequel. I think if you look at the book, we didn\u2019t cover all that stuff that happens before the\u00a0Creed family\u00a0moves in. So, I think there\u2019s a movie there, and I think I\u2019d be particularly interested in doing that, because, again, it\u2019s the source material and you are going toward something that also has a lot of crazy, creepy feelings about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I know a lot of people were indifferent about the 2019\u00a0Pet Sematary<\/em>, with some folks acting downright incensed that anyone would dare change King\u2019s ending. But I was a fan of that adaptation, and\u00a0Pet Sematary<\/em> is my all-time favorite King book, so I\u2019m interested to see another movie set in that world.<\/p>\n

In addition to\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em> and\u00a0Pet Sematary<\/em>, Variety<\/a> adds that another movie headed right for Paramount+ is\u00a0The In Between<\/em><\/strong>, which \u201ccenters on a teenage girl who survives a car accident that took the life of her boyfriend. The twist comes after she starts to believe he\u2019s attempting to reconnect with her from the after world.\u201d That film will star Joey King<\/strong>, Kyle Allen<\/strong>, John Ortiz<\/strong>, and Kim Dickens<\/strong>.
