\n Drew Brees\u2019 apology hasn\u2019t convinced everyone, but two important voices in his own locker room have taken the Saints quarterback for his word.<\/p>\n

A day after Brees said he would \u201cnever agree with anybody disrespecting the flag\u201d \u2014 drawing the ire of a wide range of athletes, including Saints star receiver Michael Thomas \u2014 the 41-year-old wrote an apology on Instagram for his \u201cinsensitive\u201d comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of my brothers made a public statement yesterday that I disagreed with,\u201d Thomas tweeted Thursday. \u201cHe apologized & I accept it because that\u2019s what we are taught to do as Christians. Now back to the movement! #GeorgeFloyd.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was a contrast from Thomas\u2019 tweets on Wednesday in the immediate aftermath of Brees\u2019 interview with Yahoo Finance, which broached the subject of Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 to protest social<\/a> injustice and police brutality \u2014 the same issues that are still at the heart of protests across the country after George Floyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe don\u2019t know no better,\u201d Thomas tweeted Wednesday, adding, \u201cWe don\u2019t care if you don\u2019t agree and whoever else how about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brees on Thursday acknowledged that \u201cI will never know what it\u2019s like to be a black man or raise black children in America but I will work every day to put myself in those shoes and fight for what is right. \u2026 I recognize that I should do less talking and more listening\u2026and when the black community is talking about their pain, we all need to listen.\u201d<\/p>\n

While ringing hollow for some athletes, Brees\u2019 apology app<\/a>eared to be a step in the right direction in the minds of his own teammates.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that is a form of true leadership,\u201d Saints linebacker Demario Davis said on CNN. \u201cThat\u2019s taking ownership. What we had hoped the first time was that Drew would elaborate more on racism and the sentiments of the black community. He admitted he missed the mark. For him to come out and say \u2018I missed the mark, I\u2019ve been insensitive but what I\u2019m going to start doing is listening and learning from the black community and finding ways that I can help them.\u2019 I think that\u2019s a model for all of America.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor him to admit that he was wrong and say I can do better and I will do better, I think that is leadership at its finest.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
