The coronavirus pandemic continues to cast a shadow over the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2021\/feb\/18\/tokyo-2020-japan-to-appoint-olympic-seiko-hashimoto-sexism-row\">safety<\/a> of hosting the event this year, particularly after a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2021\/jan\/13\/tokyo-2020-head-says-impossible-to-delay-olympics-as-public-opposition-grows\">renewed outbreak<\/a> of the virus in Tokyo last month. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For each such uncertainty, as FTX notes in its <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FTX_Official\/status\/1364819868554420225?s=20\">tweet<\/a> promoting the new contract, there can be a lucrative market. The new futures contract on FTX Token (FTT) has, according to the exchange, a different risk profile to Bitcoin (BTC). That is, &#8220;it has significantly higher chances of making large moves (to $0 or $1).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the OLY2021 contract, FTX is continuing its line of products for speculation on the future likelihood of a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/help.ftx.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360056819011-Trump-2024-Contract-Explainer\">Trump presidency<\/a> in 2024. Notably, neither of these contracts is available to residents of barred jurisdictions,\u00a0which include the United States, Canada, mainland China and Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, Turkey, the United Kingdom and others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As previously reported, cryptocurrency-powered markets have flourished during a politically and economically turbulent year.
