LEVI and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/Ulta%20Beauty%20shares%20jump%20after%20%E2%80%98mutually%20beneficial%E2%80%99%20partnership%20with%20Target%20announced\/\" class=\"icon none\">Ulta Beauty Inc.<\/a> ULTA <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Target is unashamedly an everyday brand for average Americans, it has always tried to provide a special experience that is relatively upscale for a mainstream retailer. Big brands respect this and admire Target\u2019s high retail standards,\u201d said Saunders.<\/p>\n<p>Target has a history of partnering with a wide variety of brands over the years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also:<\/strong> National Retail Federation forecasts 2021 retail sales growth between 6.5% and 8.2% as COVID-19 vaccine continues roll out<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>Target is \u201cthe true modern department store,\u201d according to Saunders \u2014 a place where shoppers can buy both essentials and indulgences while finding new items.<\/p>\n<p>The department store sector, which has struggled due to the coronavirus pandemic, faced challenges even before COVID-19 as consumer behavior shifted, including increased online shopping. <\/p>\n<p>Retailers like Macy\u2019s Inc.<br \/>\n        M,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/201854387\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.94%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Nordstrom Inc.<br \/>\n        JWN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203902116\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-1.20%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       are now leaning into digital capabilities. Macy\u2019s reported <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/Macy's%20reports%20better-than-expected%20quarter%20with%20digital%20sales%20headed%20to%20%2410%20billion\" class=\"icon none\">fourth-quarter earnings<\/a> this week that beat expectations. The company expects digital sales to reach $10 billion in the next three years.<\/p>\n<p>During its investor meeting earlier this month, Nordstrom said it would expand its merchandise assortment from about 300,000 items to 1.5 million over the next three to five years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the past, we have operated from a mainly store-based model,\u201d said Erik Nordstrom, chief executive of Nordstrom, according to a FactSet transcript of the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are now rapidly transitioning to a digital-first approach, a change accelerated by what we have seen in 2020. This means offering our broadest assortment online and using customer insights and enhanced capabilities to ensure we deploy the right product to the right place at the right time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Watch:<\/strong> Desktops are making a comeback during the pandemic<\/p>\n<p>Target is scheduled to report fourth-quarter earnings on March 2. The company has already released holiday season figures, with comparable digital sales up 102% and 95% of sales\u00a0fulfilled in stores when taking into account sales in stores, same-day services and ship-from-store.<\/p>\n<p>Target stock has rallied 67.8% over the past year. The ProShares Decline of the Retail Stores ETF<br \/>\n        EMTY,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200757065\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.52%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       has been halved over the last 12 months.
