If we are ending a 40-year secular decline in interest rates, that asset class has done its thing. What\u2019s next? We think crypto could be the solution,\u201d said Wood, who\u2019s the founder and CEO of a family of exchange-traded funds based on disruptive technologies. <\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       As Wood spoke at a virtual conference sponsored by Bloomberg, bonds continued to sell off, pushing yields<br \/>\n        TMUBMUSD10Y,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.000%\" channel=\"\" class=\"\">1.494%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       higher. Traders are expecting higher inflation this year as the economy grinds back into gear. That would erode the value of bonds that have already been issued. The Federal Reserve and other central banks have pledged to support global economies by buying bonds for as long as it\u2019s needed, a policy which has helped Bitcoin gain in value.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know there\u2019s a concern given all the quantitative easing and the no-rules based monetary policy out there. Fixed income has done 40 years of really hard work,\u201d Wood said. \u201cIf Bitcoin represents a new asset class, why not invest in it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wood clarified that she still thinks we\u2019re in a deflationary environment, not an inflationary one. That\u2019s because \u201ctechnologically enabled innovation and creative destruction\u201d brings prices down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read next: <\/strong>Coronavirus was the perfect storm for tech innovation, and this fund manager made out<\/p>\n<p>Still, there are indications investors are searching for an additional asset class, including the performance of gold, Wood pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe dollar<br \/>\n        DXY,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598269\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.10%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       dropping 7% on a trade-weighed basis last year and falling further this year is another stimulus. It should be a stimulus for gold, but Bitcoin is getting the incremental flows that might go to gold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the year to date, the gold price<br \/>\n        GC00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210034565\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-1.21%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       is down a little more than 6%, while Bitcoin<br \/>\n        BTCUSD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/31322028\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+1.89%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       has skyrocketed 75%.<\/p>\n<p>Wood pointed to institutions investing in Bitcoin as an example of its becoming more mainstream.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>Companies like Tesla Inc. and MassMutual are \u201cusing Bitcoin as a hedge against what could go wrong.
