Steven Soderbergh<\/strong> has found his next feature film with HBO Max. After the filmmaker signed an overall deal with HBO and HBO Max last year, Soderbergh released the Meryl Streep drama\u00a0Let Them All Talk<\/em>\u00a0for the WarnerMedia<\/a> streaming service. And he\u2019s keeping busy, setting up a new HBO Max original film under New Line with star\u00a0Zoe Kravitz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Deadline reports that Zoe Kravitz is set to star in the New Line Max Original movie\u00a0KIMI<\/em><\/strong>, directed by\u00a0Steven Soderbergh. The film, penned by\u00a0David Koepp<\/strong> (Jurassic Park<\/em>), will star Kravitz as \u201can agoraphobic tech worker who discovers recorded evidence of a violent crime during an ordinary data stream review and tries reporting it up the chain of command at her company. Meeting with resistance and bureaucracy, she realizes that in order to get involved, she will have to do the thing she fears the most \u2014 leave her apartment,\u201d per Deadline.
\nWhile Soderbergh\u2019s latest feature films haven\u2019t been his strongest, they show a filmmaker willing to experiment with new mediums.\u00a0Unsane<\/em> and\u00a0High Flying Bird<\/em>, for example, were films shot entirely on an iPhone, while the filmmaker has app<\/a>eared to use his streaming collaborations to work frequently with Streep (who starred in both\u00a0The Laundromat<\/em> and\u00a0Let Them All Talk<\/em>). Kravitz is a great talent, leading her own television show with Hulu\u2019s\u00a0High Fidelity<\/em> and starring soon as Catwoman opposite Robert Pattinson in\u00a0The Batman<\/em>. And screenwriter Koepp, who will produce along with Michael Polaire, has an impressive resume, writing films such as\u00a0Death Becomes Her, Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man<\/i>, and\u00a0Panic Room,<\/i>\u00a0though his recent films\u00a0The Mummy<\/em> and\u00a0You Should Have Left<\/em> leave a lot to be desired.<\/p>\n

KIMI<\/em> will premiere exclusively on HBO Max as part of Soderbergh\u2019s overall deal with the streamer and HBO. It marks the second collaboration between the Warner Bros. Pictures Group, HBO Max, and Soderbergh since the studio\u2019s restructuring, and the third between the filmmaker and HBO Max. The first was\u00a0Let Them All Talk<\/em>, a leisurely dramedy starring Streep, Lucas Hedges, Candice Bergen, and Dianne Wiest that debuted to mostly positive reviews. The second is the upcoming\u00a0No Sudden Move<\/em>, a star-studded Max Original crime thriller from Warner Bros. that stars\u00a0Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, David Harbour, Amy Seimetz, Jon Hamm, Ray Liotta, Kieran Culkin, Brendan Fraser, Noah Jupe, Bill Duke, Frankie Shaw and Julia Fox.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a lot of work for a director who has frequently stated he would retire, only to be the busiest he\u2019s been in years, churning out films like\u00a0High-Flying Bird<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Laundromat<\/em> for Netflix before apparently moving over to HBO Max. But under that deal with WarnerMedia, we\u2019ll likely see even more.<\/p>\n
