It\u2019s been eight years since\u00a0Dexter<\/em><\/strong> went off the air. And in those eight years, what has the vigilante serial killer been up to? According to the divisive finale for\u00a0Clyde Phillips<\/strong>\u2018 Showtime crime drama, working as a lumberjack, or something. But the\u00a0Dexter<\/em> revival, an upcoming Showtime limited series<\/a> which will supposedly \u201cmake right\u201d the maligned ending of the series, will show exactly what\u00a0Dexter<\/em> has been doing for the near-decade that he\u2019s been off the air.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been nearly a decade since\u00a0Michael C. Hall<\/strong> last slipped on the splatter-proof apron, but the\u00a0Dexter<\/em> star believes that now is a right time to return to the serial killer series.
\n\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to getting back into Dexter\u2019s shoes. I don\u2019t really know what to expect, as I\u2019ve never returned to a job after so much time,\u201d Hall said in a\u00a0recent interview with\u00a0NME<\/em><\/a>.\u201dHaving Dexter in a completely different context, we\u2019ll see how that feels. It\u2019s been interesting to figure out how to do that and I thought it was time to find out what the hell happ<\/a>ened to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

What did happen to Dexter? The infamous finale showed the serial killer moving from Florida to Oregon, while the revival picks up with Dexter in up in upstate New York. Per a Deadline casting report, the revival will see Dexter encountering the local townspeople and local law enforcement, including Angela Bishop,\u00a0the first Native American chief of police in her town played by\u00a0The Mandalorian<\/em>\u2018s Julia Jones. Also starring in the 10-episode limited series are\u00a0Alano Miller (Sylvie\u2019s Love<\/em>), Johnny Sequoyah (Believe<\/em>) and Jack Alcott (The Good Lord Bird<\/em>).<\/p>\n

It all sounds like the making of a small-town crime drama in which Dexter happens to find himself involved. And it was the distance of that story from the original series that drew Hall to the revival, he said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI just needed the persuasion of time passing, so I could [get] some distance away from that part and have more possibilities for him. Really, it was about being presented with a story I felt was worth telling. There had been some other proposals and possibilities for\u00a0Dexter<\/em>, other roads we started down, but this was the first one that was worth continuing on.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But as to whether this is a continuation that opens the door to more\u00a0Dexter<\/em> or serves as the second finale for the series, Hall was more coy. \u201cI\u2019m reluctant to say \u2018definitely\u2019, you know?\u201d Hall said when asked whether this was \u201cdefinitely\u201d the ending. \u201cWhat\u2019s plain now is that there\u2019s 10 new episodes.\u201d
\nThe new limited series begins production this month in Massachusetts, with a tentative premiere date set for the fall of\u00a02021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
