Forget winning five Grammys \u2014 when Billie Eilish<\/a> was younger, everything she wanted could be summed up in one name: Justin Bieber.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was, like, 12 \u2026 that was like my first love,\u201d the \u201cEverything I Wanted\u201d singer, now 19, says during a radio interview in the new documentary \u201cBillie Eilish: The World\u2019s a Little Blurry,\u201d premiering Friday on Apple TV+. <\/p>\n

In fact, Eilish was once so obsessed with Bieber that her mother considered taking her to therapy to deal with her fixation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI literally remember sobbing into a pillow because I thought, \u2018I\u2019m never gonna feel this way about anyone [else],\u2019 Eilish says of the 26-year-old \u201cHoly\u201d crooner. \u201cI literally was terrified that when I got a boyfriend when I was older that \u2026 he won\u2019t compare.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, the most moving part of the documentary comes when Eilish actually gets to meet Bieber at Coachella in 2019 after he has just collaborated on a remix of her mega-hit \u201cBad Guy.\u201d When they fall into the longest, biggest hug and she weeps on his shoulder, it\u2019s clear that that moment means more to Eilish than any Grammy ever could.<\/p>\n

It helps explain why Eilish now has such a special connection with her own fans. \u201cI don\u2019t think of them as fans, ever,\u201d she says. \u201cThey\u2019re not my fans \u2014 they\u2019re, like, part of me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also a big part of her? Her family. Mom Maggie taught Eilish how to write songs; her dad, Tom, schooled her on playing the piano and the ukulele. And her parents \u2014 along with older brother Finneas \u2014 backed her up in talent shows as a little kid growing up in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur family was just one big f\u2014king song,\u201d says Eilish. \u201cAnd I still make music in my brother\u2019s bedroom.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe World\u2019s a Little Blurry\u201d goes inside the making of Eilish\u2019s debut album, 2019\u2019s \u201cWhen We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?,\u201d with Finneas \u2014 who produced and co-wrote the LP \u2014 and his sister at their family home. The two siblings have an instinctive, symbiotic creative process built on their tight bond. While he is the architect behind her moody, otherworldly soundscapes \u2014 he even won a Producer of the Year Grammy for his efforts \u2014 it\u2019s clear that she still has her own vision, even vowing to direct all of her own videos at one point.<\/p>\n

It does come as a surprise, though, when Finneas reveals that \u201cBillie hates writing songs in general<\/a>.\u201d And his sister concurs: \u201cEvery single time I\u2019ve written a song that I actually like, I\u2019ve hated the process,\u201d she says. \u201cIt tortures me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

As for the darkness of her lyrics, Eilish tells one interviewer, \u201cPeople are always like, you know, \u2018It\u2019s so dark. Like, have happy music.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Well, I\u2019m never feeling happy, so why would I write about things I don\u2019t know about?\u2019 I feel the dark things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Toward the end of the film, she reveals just how dark things have gotten for her. \u201cTo be honest with you, I didn\u2019t think I would make it to this age,\u201d says Eilish, who began struggling with depression after a serious hip injury forced her to stop dancing at 13. \u201cI was, like, 14-15. I had razors hidden in places, and I had Band-Aids hidden in the little corner of my room. And I always had Band-Aids on my wrists. I was literally locking myself in the bathroom and making myself bleed \u2019cause I thought I deserved it.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe World\u2019s a Little Blurry\u201d also reveals Eilish\u2019s relationship with older actor Brandon \u201cQ\u201d Adams, which ended in 2019. <\/p>\n

But her heart still belongs to Bieber. <\/p>\n

The doc finishes with her getting a congratulatory FaceTime from her \u201cfirst love\u201d after her big Grammy sweep in 2020. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t believe it \u2014 it\u2019s insane,\u201d she says through giggles, before ending the call with \u201cI love you.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
