Nearly a year after closing due to the coronavirus pandemic, Lincoln Center on Thursday announced it\u2019s taking the show outside.<\/p>\n

The performing arts institution will create 10 outdoor stages for performances and rehearsals starting April 7.<\/p>\n

Called \u201cRestart Stages,\u201d the initiative is part of an effort by the center to \u201ccontribute to the revival of New York City\u201d and boost the Big App<\/a>le\u2019s performance art sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are building this outdoor campus to be ready, so that when the time comes, we do not miss a single day,\u201d Henry Timms,\u00a0Lincoln Center\u2019s president and CEO, said in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will fling our metaphorical doors wide open on day one in celebration of New York and the resolute, remarkable people who make it the best city on earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The venues will include a cabaret-style stage on Lincoln Center\u2019s Hearst Plaza, space for public school graduations and a reading room created with The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.<\/p>\n

Programming will cover the annual summer concerts from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, concerts and cabaret from Lincoln Center Theater, New York City Ballet dance workshops and Film at Lincoln Center screenings.<\/p>\n

Performance has been slowly making its way back to the Big Apple. <\/p>\n

The statewide \u201cNY PopsUp\u201d festival, announced by Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier this month, launched with a show by pianist Jon Batiste at the Javits Center over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Mayor Bill de Blasio, meanwhile, has said that the city will be offering a\u00a0new free permit for outdoor street performances<\/a>\u00a0by struggling groups, like theaters.\n <\/div>\n
